          • they probably exclude gtp because it has dual outlets, this only has one.

              • GM also offers two exhausts for the Cobalt - one is "Touring" and the other is "Performance".

But yeah, you're probably right, one's probably a single outlet.

                • Custom Exhaust Ideas

So I have my rear dual valance and went last night to have a local guy help me come up with some ideas about how to run duals. The dude was awesome and willing to help me set up whatever I want. Its going to be pressure bent, but I'm not overly concerned with that. One option we came up with was to keep the stock resonator in place and run new piping into a Y pipe and weld in a glass pack before each tip. I like the idea as it seems simple and something I haven't seen done yet, so thats cool. He said he could weld or clamp to the resonator, but we decided it'd be better to clamp so I could try it out for a while and see what I think of the sound and change out parts easier if I wanted.

What do you guys think of that? How restrictive is the resonator in there? My only 2 concerns are 1)Is is going to be extremely loud? and 2)Am I not going to see much gain by leaving the stock resonator in there?

I'm searching around now to see if I can find a performance muffler that will fit in the space (about 7" by 4") where the resonator is now in case I need to change that out. Any suggestions?

                  • You should remove the resonator and replace it with a Magnaflow 7" round muffler. The part # is 14716.

                    • 4" round would be better.

                      Comment

                      • haha, well that was pretty straight forward. Is that what you're running? You have the dual mufflers on yours right? I think my plan is probably to try the setup with stock res into a Y with glasspacks on each and see what thats like. Then maybe later(depending on how I feel about it) maybe add a more performance muffler in place of it.

To add to my post, the only thing my guy doesn't have is the tips I want. I'm looking for a 2.5" in with a 4" out diameter. Rolled and angle cut. Something around 7" long would be perfect for our setup.

I found a 5" Magnaflow: (which is ok, but maybe a touch too short?)

and a 7" Flowmaster: (pretty much exactly what I want, apart from the price):

Know anything about these? Any secret spots to go cheaper? If the 5" Mag will work I'd love to get that for the price difference. What length tips do people have?

                        • I want to avoid that in the worst way...I have a car not a go cart. I figure if I run into a problem with not liking the sound I could probably fix that by replacing the resonator? Maybe with one of the rounds like you guys were saying. I just graduated and got a job right in the middle of Penn State, so I hear students with those freakin 4 bangers with terrible cheap exhaust all day long. I don't want to add to it.

how bout this. buy a GT-R exhaust and be done with it. even in the sound clips it sounds amazing let alone in person. why go with trial and error when you can by the GT-R which was al ready perfected. and we get a sweet discount too . when you could end yup spending way more if it doesnt turn out like you want it when doing a custom set up.

                            • I definitely looked at the GT-R for a while now. I know it's a great product and I'd love to have it. But the GT-R has been kinda held up lately and I can get a setup done like this for like 300 bucks less. Of course its not mandrel and all tuned and everything but thats ok. I like getting my hands dirty and playing around with stuff, so its also just fun for me to look at all the options and see what I can work out. Makes it feel a little more personal than ordering a bolt on kit.

Back to my old post...where'd people get tips? Any ideas on the ones I posted or affordable alternatives?

                              • I used a 3" universal resonator. I didn't like the sound with a straight pipe in place of the stock resonator. I wouldn't use glass packs either, but that's just my personal taste in sound. I'm extreemly happy with what I have.
