Jesus, i just read all 13 pages of this, and now my interest is extremely peaked!! my only question is can we get some photos of this installed or being installed; other than the ipod in the center console? Haha!
Hi all! Here are some installation tips from my experience installing this and hopefully you'll save yourself a lot of the headaches I went through.
1: Make sure you have the proper tools (can't stress this enough) Here's what you need.
a. socket set with 1/4" and a 7mm socket.
b. a 7 mm socket wrench (this is for the hard to get at screw for the glove box)
c. flat head crew driver (to remove right and left side panels of dash) PS. they don't mention these in the instructions.
d. electrical tape (tie wraps may help to)
e. plyers
f. wire cutters
2: Remove end panels first by using your flathead screwdriver (careful not to scuff and scratch anything) just pry slightly to get your fingers in there to pull the panel off, panels are held in by clips. It takes some elbow greade to pull some of these cliped pieces off. Once these are off they will uncover some screws that the instructions don't mention but they need to come out.
3:Now you unscrew the glove box screws
4:Now go to the drivers side and unscrew the screws under the steering column and remove that panel.
5: The center cover comes off next by simply pulling it off(clips hold it)
To remove this cover you also need to unclip the wire from the Button that turns your Flashers on....CAREFUL here the clip breaks off this thing easy, I had to tape mine back on.
Note: I had to put my shifter in neutrel to remove this center piece. If you do this make sure your E-Brake is on.
6ISCONNECT YOUR NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE!
7: now you can follow the instructions given to connect the harness to the back of the radio.
8: Connect the yellow wire to the red and white wire using the t-tap they gave you...this is where your plyers may come in handy, I used them to squeez the tap together. I also used the black tape to make sure it would never come undone!
9: Connect the green/white wire to the the dark green wire on the back of the radio. CAREFUL: There are a lot of dark green wires back there... make sure you have the B9 Dark Green wire. B9 is marked on the plastic plug that goes into the radio.... MAKE SURE YOU HAVE the B9 one.
I simply cut mine with the wire cutters and spliced the green/white wire to it by exposing enough wire from both ends of the dark green wire I cut. I twisted the 3 ends together extremely tight and black taped the hell out of it.
10: Plug the rest of the wires in, reconnect your negative battery cable and hook up your Ipod to make sure everything works and sounds exactly like it should.... Make sure you can navigate the ipos from your radio controls etc... If everything checks out then put all the pices back together in the exact reverse order you took them out!
I found that the white box fits nicely in the compartment where the fuse box is (the panel that covers the fuse box is only held on with velcrose so it makes for easy access to) Use your tape or tie wraps to keep wires from hanging and prevent them from ever getting pulled out etc...
I ran the white wire from behind the coin holder near the drivers side door through the holes under the steering column, right to the fuse box to make my connection to the white box.
My Ipod fits pretty nicely in the coin holder, I have a Maxell leather case that I put some velcrose on the case and in the coin holder so it stays in there really nicely.
You only need the rca connectors if you are hooking up something other than your ipod! Mine sits in a drawer in my house because I have no need for it at this time.
Brown just delivered mine. I haven't torn into it yet, but where do you run the two RCA plugs? Are there connections on the back of the head unit? Should put in in tomorrow.
That's an input adapter for the AXXESS box. You cannot use it and the ipod adapter simultaneously. The port the iPod cable uses is also needed by one half of that RCA input cable. Throw the adapter in the junk drawer, but keep it on hand for possible future use.
On my earlier blurb about the volume I do think that that the Ipod has a bit of a higher volume however......
If you have the auto volume control on your radio that adjusts the volume to the road noise like mine has I would turn it off. I had mine on High initially so I noticed big dips in volume from time to time....Finally figured it was the setting on my radio telling it to adjust to the road noise.

try turning ON soundcheck on your ipod. i find that keeps the volume input at a more consistent level

I'm going to make some calls and see if I can find out more nearby tomorrow. This looks like the best alternative so far if it works like its supposed to. Damn FM modulator is driving me nuts. Its a crapshoot everytime I use it. One time it sounds good, next time it doesn't. Plus always prefer being able to hardwire when possible. Think I remember Scosche working with GM in the past and believe that might be a good sign as to this working. Will post up if I get any new info tomorrow. (Hell, if I find one, going to buy it tomorrow if its supposed to work).
