Re: Transmission Cooler: Is there a aftermarket Transmission Cooler for the G6?

is the transmission cooler that is integrated into the G6 is that standard with every variation of the G6?

additionally I had a new engine 3.5L (manufactured in July 2011 in Canada) placed in my car around 40,000 miles (September 2011) now I just hit 66,000 miles on my car, and when should I get my transmission fluid changed, every 30,000 miles or so?

i believe its 50k miles.. the integrated "cooler" exists in ALL 6s.. however.. its more of a conditioner than a cooler

I called up the dealership and they said 30,000 for Dex 6. I'm just thinking since it's been like 85+ degrees outside for the last month, and I've driven about 2400 miles last month, changing the transmission fluid wouldn't be a bad idea. So I got a 9 am appointment tomorrow morning. I'd rather get the fluid changed now that later on down the road have problems, since I've read that transmission fluid not being changed correctly can cause allot of problems, so if the dealership fucks up, they have to fix it....

Ha it's funny. I just went and installed a Trans Cooler today. Then I came home and went online to post about it and saw this thread. haha. So here's what I posted on here:
                http://www.g6performance.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=23116

I also made a HOW-TO on it and the link exists within the above posted link...

Also as you mentioned in your first post:

And I know exactly what you mean. I have always felt that my transmission shifted and worked perfectly within the first hour of driving, any longer or if I'm moving slowly through traffic and it starts to feel harsh at some points or just not as smooth or as crisp. Like there's an old guy in there who decides when and how to transition between gears and he's slowly loosing his touch. haha

Re: Transmission Cooler: Is there a aftermarket Transmission Cooler for the G6?

Well because I was having trouble sleeping I took it for kind of a lengthy drive, Some highway, some city, some town. All in all I have to say it has made a noticeable difference. The shifts are a lot smoother and right on. Some shifts are even harder to notice, like it's able to shift more efficiently. It also seems to favor overdrive a little more then usual. Like when I start climbing a hill I'll usually accelerate slowly in the hopes of preventing it from downshift. And I was surprised because it didn't really downshift at all. It just used the torque and brought me right up to speed!

I'll be doing more driving and testing and give more info as I can.

Re: Transmission Cooler: Is there a aftermarket Transmission Cooler for the G6?

Well I just talked to the Head G6 repair tech at the dealership and he explained the radiator in more detail. He said there is a cooler in the transmission for the G6, but since the transmission usually runs hotter than the engine, the transmission only cool to the temperature of the engine which is 220 degrees, he said it's completely fine to install a secondary cooler on the G6. He said most trucks have a secondary cooler for hauling or for cars that drive long hauls, so in his minds it not out of the question for a G6. He also said if I got a twin cooler like the one you have CruisnG6, it could cool the transmission by an additional 25 degree's which WOULD increase gear function and eliminate slipping as-well as increase the life of the transmission by 80,000 more miles he estimates. He said Dex 6 protects the transmission better if it operates at a cooler temperate.

I ask him about the risk of freezing the secondary cooler and he said Dex 6 has a freezing temperature of -30 degree's so the likely chance of that happening in the 50 states is nearly non-existent unless I was on-top of a mountain.

your not quite understanding what we mean by running "too cool" its not the trans fluid freezing that you need to worry about, transmission fluid is like engine oil.......it only provides proper lubrication after it reaches a certain temp...... like engine oil should be around 160-180F or so to provide proper lubrication as it needs to thin out a bit from what it is when its cold......

also the colder the fluid the thicker it is makes it more dificult to go through all the tiny valves in the valve body on the trans and such........a transmission cooler alone will not cause it to be too cold if you have self regulating cooler, or a inline thermostat for it......

unless you use a cooler with threaded fittings and AN hose i would keep an eye on them as the pressure "could" push the hoses off if the clamps become loose or if the metal ends arent flared and dump your transfluid all over and you wouldnt be going anywhere......

                          interesting, thanks for the correction.

I still think having an additional cooler would have it's benefits at times.

I can honestly say with the hot weather we've been getting my transmission is been working GREAT! great shifts, and the torque converter feels nice and smooth when coming from a stop.

I am slightly worried about it getting too cold in the winter time, but I figure since I have two coolers Maybe I can block one off with some cardboard or just re-route the hoses to bypass the second cooler I have. Either way I don't think it'll be too big an issue. I got two smaller coolers so they may be efficient but not too efficient. haha

I am slightly worried about it getting too cold in the winter time, but I figure since I have two coolers Maybe I can block one off with some cardboard or just re-route the hoses to bypass the second cooler I have. Either way I don't think it'll be too big an issue. I got two smaller coolers so they may be efficient but not too efficient. haha
