Probally, but it's definally a completely different sound. Could be more of a personal thing.

        • GM CATBACK EXHAUST

I was thinkin about purchasing the catback exhaust system thru gmpartsdirect in the next few weeks for my 3.6. My last two cars I tricked out with apperance mods and I'm kind of leaning away and want to start some performance mods. I need opinons is the system worth the money or not?

LordKOTL just had his installed on his 08 GXP. He posted up sound clips. Maybe he could come in here and let us know some more details about it.

I had another problem with my exhaust yesterday. I have the GT-R for those of you that don't know... and I put it on myself with my cousin.

Background: Put it on in October, had rattling noises while doing sharp turns when I was giving it throttle. Turned out to be exhaust. Late December, down pipe pops out of the muffler. I fix it quick, pops out a week later. I use a few long 2x4's and knock the pipe into each other a lot deeper than I originally had it. I tightened the clamp as tight as I could get it as well and all was well. The noise while turning disappeared as well. Good for almost a month.

Yesterday: I noticed on my way somewhere it was making the rattling while turning thing again. The damn down pipe and muffler became disconnected again on my return trip and I fixed it again.

Any suggestions on what I should check, and why it might be popping out like this every so often?

are you moving the whole system or just that one pipe?

if there is something forcing pressure on that area to come unattatched might need a support to to not have that pressure right there, so for that i would think the whole system needs moved toward that area

Make sure that your using a good quality torque wrench to tighten the clamps. The max recommendation is 50 Ft. lbs. With a regular short racthet, real tight sometimes does not equal 50 ft. lbs. so it's best to use a torque wrench. Once those clamps are tighetned properly, it's very difficult to move the pipes, even after the clamps have been loosened up.

I'm going to try taking it off and cleaning out the outside and inside of both pipes. There has to be salt / sand on them since that's all thats on the bottom of the car... I'll check the clamp to. Hopefully I didn't strip it.. I used a long ratchet to tighten it this last time..

Worst off I might try another bracket. My dad can get me some stainless brackets, plumbing contractor, worse off. But I wont be able to test it until next week. I'm keeping my ratchet set in the car with me just in case from now on in case something happens while I'm up at school. It's a 60 mile haul back home on the highway. I've driven home when it's come off before but not more than 15 miles or so. It would be deafening on the highway without a muffler

                    • What is the stock diameter for the exhaust on the GTP?

Is it 2.25" or 2.5"? TIA!

Damn Thank you. Is there an aftermarket exhaust for the G6 with a 2.5" or 3" diameter?

Yes the GTR system is 2.5. There is no need for 3 inch on an N/A engine.
