For about two months the Stabilitrak light on my car has been coming on. In the beginning the light seemed to come on and stay on when, I would imagine the light was supposed to come on, taking a corner a bit quickly or something. Recently the light will basically come on as soon as the car is started and not go off.
I took the car to the dealer, to get some other warranty work done, assuming that something like this would also be covered under the warranty. Anyway, the dealer said that they looked over the system and they said that the Stabilitrak light seemed to be coming on because the voltage on the battery was low since the battery is going bad. They also told me that the battery was not covered under the extended warranty. They quoted me at $135.99 to replace the battery so I told him that I did not want it done, the reason being, as you know, I can buy a good battery for about $85.00 and do it myself.
I questioned the rep on the phone, because I thought that this sounded weird and he assured me that a low battery voltage could indeed cause the Stabilitrak light to come on. He told me that it affects the entire electrical system (still seems weird to me but I am not a mechanic and it sound plausible). So, I went ahead and replaced the battery myself and the light still comes on, when I start the car, and does not go off again until the car is turned off. I guess I have a few related questions that I was hoping that people could help me with.
1.) Can a low battery really cause the Stabilitrak light to come on?
2.) Why would something like this not be covered under the extended warranty that I am paying for? I thought the warranty would cover just about everything except parts that wear out like brake pads and such.
3.) What else might cause the light come on what else can I look into or have someone look into?
Looks like this was quite a long post.
I appreciate anyone's help,
