  • Will they fix this?**they said yes, but noooooo

My last dealer trip went fairly well for warranty work. They rebuilt my engine because of a rattling noise on startup, put in new model visors, new radio, etc. they even washed my car!

but when I got home i started seeing the problems...they left pieces of my dash hanging off, I found a rattle on the right side of the radio thats pretty bad, rubber noise pieces on my engine cover are gone, a foam block on the passenger side kick panel isn't there anymore, a bolt is missing from my air box, a plastic holder of the firewall is gone, the next day my fenderwell fell down and rubbed on my tire and is now cracked and rubs when i turn left. then today I start my car drive to school and i'm accelerating around this turn and i hear this loud rattle like something is banging against my engine with the vibrations. at first I thought it was my engine cover but the rubber piece had been missing for months with no problem. the i took the engine cover off and there some plastic piece with tubes and cables running to it that is just hanging around loose in there on top of it's mounting bracket. (it's on the right side of the ecotec on top of the motor almost)

do you think they will take care of
-the fenderwell being damaged after the engine work? I dont know if it was coincidence or if they messed up on the reinstallation. either way will they fix it under warranty?
-all the missing bolts, rubber pieces, foam blocks....will the replace them?
-radio rattle after they put the new one in...will they fix it?
-and last time they didn't fix my driver seat squeak maybe if I show them since it does it every time i'm in the car....they told me that they couldn't reproduce the squeak.

    Re: Will they fix this?

I don't see why not. Looks like they messed up quite a bit.

    A little story:

I used to have a 1998 Blazer. Before going out on a long road trip, I took it in for a routine oil change and overall check of everything. Once on the trip, after about 1,000 miles of driving, the car starting make strange noises in the rear differential. Took the Blazer to the dealer nearby; they raised it and showed us the over-tightened bolt at this exact location.

Turns out the mechanic doing the oil change was incompetent and pretty much wrecked the whole end of the car by screwing the bolt too tightly. I got a brand new rear axle, new differential, new rear brakes, etc. (pretty much everything in the rear under the car). I called the home dealer, explained the problem, and was very angry. However, there's a happy ending. The entire fix was done for free after calling the GM hotline as this was 100% dealer-fault.

Now, this might not be exactly your situtation, but if the dealer messed up your car to the point that all these problems are occuring (and they were not there before the previous appointment), I say the dealer and/or GM will pay for the repair.

    Hope this helps some.

did you take off all your engine mods before you headed to the dealership?

i don't have my injen intake installed yet, and i just put in my stock tune b4 i go so there is no way they can blame that for anything. Only thing i've done under there is my strut bar.

i guess they should fix it, i'll call them tomorrow and see what they say. I have 2 more months/2000 miles on my bumper to bumper so i want to get everything good to go.

              Re: Will they fix this?

i haven't been able to go in with school but i tie wrapped that loose piece and the noise is still there, and i'm starting to think its coming from inside the engine....loud rattles at certain rpms and increases in turns...something might be messed up and they just worked on it and put in all new parts less than 2000 miles ago. It runs and sounds fine at higher rpms (3000 and up) but i usually get the rattles around 1500-2000. I have no clue what it could be unless they didn't install something right.

When I had my 2001 Impala I started getting rattling sounds at certain RPMs, between 1000-1500. Did some research and it turned out to be an exhaust shield that had become loose. A couple of bolts put in and the sound was gone. More of a nuisance than anything bad.

                  Re: Will they fix this?

Bring it back. They're problem, they fix it. Show them what happened, and that it is clearly whoever worked on the car's problem. The fenderwell will be the kicker, as well as the missing airbox screw.

Happened to me with my G6. They took it apart and did a great job at diagnosing and fixing a roden-chewed-through fuel injector wire and had to order a whole new harness to put it in. They had to take the intake manifold off to get at it, and the coolant return line runs right near it and the clearly had to disconnect the hose that goes to the reserve tank to get to get the intake manifold off.

After I realized my G6 was starting to overheat a week later... I popped the hood and saw the hose sitting in the middle of the engine bay, coolant all leaked out of it. The clamp to hold it on the reserve tank was in the middle of the hose, and wouldn't move on its own and was clearly not put back on. I put the hose back on the tank, and tried as best i could with no tools to get the clamp to release enough to keep it on the tank, but could only get it to loosely stay on the tank and drove it like that after putting bottled water in the reserve tank since i had _no_ coolant left to a place I could get a tow. Showed it to the service manager when I got to the dealer, showed him where I found it, and he said right away "We'll take care of it don't worry". Two hours later he calls, said they replaced all the coolant, checked for engine damage and there was none from overheating since I shut it off before it got too hot. They threw in the oil change I was scheduled to have the next day for free too, and I pickup happy.

                    Re: Will they fix this?

took it in about 4pm yesterday expecting a call later today.

the guy i was talking to was nice and wrote down everything i said. he also said he def hears the rattling and that it is not normal. (even happens for 2 seconds on startup kinda loud). I couldn't believe all the pieces they left loose or missing.

-foam block inside passenger kick panel missing
                    -airbox screw missing
                    -broken harness for some wiring
                    -rattling on side of radio
                    -firewall plastic holder missing
-that wired thing under engine cover loose and not on it's bracket
                    -dash panels hanging down
-some bracket on a metal hose loose and not attached to anything
-fender well not installed correctly and fell down onto my tire next day

the noise sounds a lottt like the excessive piston clearance issue i had before on startup but constant now. when i looked online it sounded a lot like rod knock videos i watched.

It's gonna be pretty ridiculous if they have to rebuild my engine again.
I'll just ask them to drop in a 2.0L turbo and call it even.

Hopefully they learn their lesson and do it right this time.

                        Re: Will they fix this?

so i got my car back a WEEK later

the engine noise is almost gone still doesn't sound perfect. then i go wait a minute lemme check what they did.... so on the way home i pull over and look in the engine bay. All they did was put in an airbox screw the whole week they had it.

i drove back and have them come look at my car and i said you guys didn't even do anything. they are like ohh we are so sorry! the technician responsible for this will be back monday and bring your car in then. we will take parts off other cars if we have to to get it taken car off.....................so i said ill see u monday and left. they said they could not duplicate the engine noise on the paperwork when i had 3 people tell me they heard it loud and clear. then the fender well is cracked and broken with tire marks all over it and they said they couldn't duplicate a rub so they didn't replace it.

SO HERE WAS MY LIST AND IN GREEN IS WHAT THEY DID
-foam block inside passenger kick panel missing
-airbox screw missing -different color bolt added in
                        -broken harness for some wiring
-rattling on side of radio said they insulated the radio.....still sounds exactly the same
                        -firewall plastic holder missing
-that wired thing under engine cover loose and not on it's bracket
                        -dash panels hanging down
-some bracket on a metal hose loose and not attached to anything
-fender well not installed correctly and fell down onto my tire next day
-engine rattle i have no idea what they did but its reduced for now
                        -engine cover missing rubber holders

                            just a quick question...

did they tell you what was wrong w/ your engine && why it rattled when you started it up?
i dont want to say it... but i think this is starting to happen to mine

well when they first fix it they replaced the pistons and pretty much the entire upper part of the engine

on the paper work it said excessive piston clearance....was that the real problem im not sure....they replaced almost everything so it could have been something else.....this new rattle had to be something not torqued right when they put it back together.
