Re: How to: Take off radio face

I was curious about the board.

I am working on something that I think is going to work great!

Not to highjack the thread but i am almost done with a solderless full color change deck

what I meant is I am not changing the LED's out and no I am not getting the LED boots. I came up with an idea that I think is a hell of a lot easier then swapping the LED's. I am trying to figure out how I am going to do the display but I will post pictures of my buttons in less then an hour when I am done.

You don't mean changing out the cover on top of the LEDs do you?

Re: How to: Take off radio face

I will tell you 1 of my 2 ideas did not work as well as I planned.

I painted the plastic pieces that transfers the light to all the buttons, but i could not get it bright enough they light up blue just not "true" blue I have my original idea that I am working on but it is too late here all the stores are closed and I had paint so i tried it. I will make some calls and see if i can find what I am looking for.

If everything goes as planned (it should) would be able to change the color of your buttons next to nothing and almost any color.

ill keep everyone posted when i find out what I am doing.

Any news on this? I was assuming they were all 1206's, but i assumed wrong. I'm wondering what to do to get some of my lights to be blue. Anybody figure something out?

I'm still assuming the button LEDs are 3mm and the display LEDs are 0603. If you take yours apart and take a pic of the display LEDs, I can tell you instantly.

Re: How to: Take off radio face

so, in theory, we can buy blue LEDS and replace the red covered led's and it would work?

Re: How to: Take off radio face

In theory. The thing is, you'd needs specs on the amout of power the stock LED's draw and the amount of turn-on voltage. I don't think there would be an issue in replacing these with pure red LED's, since they require less turn-on voltage and are a bit more tolerant in power consumption, but you'd have to make sure that a pure blue LED wouldn't require a higher turn-on voltage or require a larger power-draw, otherwise it may not light up.

If we could get specs on the specific LED's (turn-on voltage, min, max, and mean power consumption, and the like), it should be easy to match other "pure" colors with similar characteristics.

That's an incredibly big no. The DIC won't work because the cakeboard will be slashed. You're better off using the Metra kit.

                              Just a thought here...

Has anyone tried spraying the tips of the LEDs with translucent spray paint? I don't necessarily want to change the color from red, but I am hoping to change the color to a more striking red tone.
