  • Widest Absolute Tire Size

I have a 2005 with stock GT wheels. I am running 225 and need the look of a fatter tire, and some more traction...

I have seen 245/ 45/ 17 offered for my car. And some 235/ 45/17 for my car... what is the absolute widest i can run?

well, i have a gtp with 18s and im sure we have the same size wheel well. i have 245 40 18s on with no problem and still have plenty of clearance, but not much more. i really doubt a 255 will fit, but you can only try

well, the widest id probably dare go might be a 245, i have 235's now. any wider and you might expirience some dramatic instability in turning. personally i have to be constantly wary with the steering wheel when traversing slaloms any closer spaced than 45 feet or body roll momentum will take over and make me slide in whatever direction it chooses.

then again youre a quarter mile'r i believe? in which case i dont really see a problem with going wider perrformance wise. ive always kinda thought that getting a narrower rear tire at the same time would greatly reduce the drag cause by the rear end, hell maybe thatd be all youd have to do for the same effect as a wider front tire. i dont know much about drag racing really, i autox, but i imagine that would greatly assist the launch, right?

then again my present tires have a fat 50 profile. that might have a little to do with it :/
luckilly a second set of rims+tires are on their way, 40 profiles, specifically for autox. that way i dont mess up my daily tires. like i have been doing

that just what ive been though anyway. im pretty sure you could squeeze 255's on there. they just might look a little silly imo.

no i'm pretty sure you cannot fit 255s. my 245/40s barely fit and any bigger will rub.

do you have ur car lowered or would lowering it cause that size to rub?

It also depends on the tire manufacturer. I had F1's in 225/50 18 on my G6 and they would rub if you turned the wheel until lock.

i just meant squeeze onto the rim specifically. outside that are the other issues that come with that territory i would suppose.

                      i had 245/45 on my factory 18s

how wide are the other factory wheels? that is what will determine the real result here
