  • Custom Exhaust Options

So im trying to figure out what setup i want to get for a custom exhaust in the future. I have been watching videos on youtube and so far the one that sounds the best is the Borla Pro XS in my opinion. I really dont like any raspiness in my exhaust i like the smooth deep sound and from what i can see borla doesnt have any high flow resonators or anything like that.

So what would you guy suggest for a high flow resonator or something of the sort to get rid of raspiness?

Also from what i understand there is no performance or economical difference in dual (from the muffler) and single exhaust besides looks and sound, correct me if im wrong. So since i already have a borla tip for a single exhaust i would be better off just doing that correct?

Any other input on exhausts would be nice too

    Thanks

I bet you'd be happy with a muffler delete.

Well i kind of wanted to get an actual performance exhaust with 2.5 pipe.

The most performance you'll ever get out of an exhaust is with using straight pipe.

Not true, cat-less with a nice muffler and an increase in pipe size would be best. You want flow, but controlled flow.

If I were you I'd chop off everything after the cat and do 2.5'' piping. Get rid of the resonator and replace it with a cherrybomb to eliminate raspy/ricey tones, and then go with some type of performance muffler like a Flowmaster Super 44, magna flow muffler or anything like that. That is your personal choice in tone. But the resonator, factory muffler and piping is quite restrictive, not to mention heavy so chop it all off!

You're wrong. Think about it, a muffler does exactly what it says it does: muffles the engine. The more muffling the exhaust system is, the more restrictive it is. Also larger diameter pipe will only make the exhaust tone a tad deeper, and, at least for our cars, it will decrease low end torque which you obviously don't want. As for the resonator, you don't need to replace that. It already does a good job at eliminating tinny and raspy sounds.

All in all OP, it's your choice. Just think about it: a muffler will only muffle the engine and restrict airflow. I was just giving you my opinion.

This is what i was thinking. I wasnt sure what to use to get rid of the rasp is all. I also dont know which setup of a muffler i need, meaning where the input and outputs are located center left or right.

                    Re: Custom Exhaust Options

A muffler refines the sound, but the resonator (and cat) take away a ton of volume and flow. Increasing pipe size by a quarter of an inch will not change low end enough for you to even notice. Have you even looked at the resonator? It's half the car long, you tell me how that is not restrictive.

How many exhausts have you done to be suck an expert?

OP listen to someone with experience. Cut off your stock system, go to a 2.5" pipe size, and put a cherry bomb in place of the resonator. There is a reason everyone runs this set up, you won't be disappointed. And add the muffler of your choice!

Iv always been told that having a lot of restriction is bad however having none at all isnt very good either. I cant remember which have what effects but iv always been told that having less restriction than stock by adding high flow mufflers and what not would allow for more performance without killing mpg and sometimes will increase both performance and mpg.

Grab your choice of a 2.5" glasspack (any brand will do) for your resonator, the longer it is the more mellow it will bez for the muffler if you have someone route the pipe you could do a smaller center in/center out, or turn one sideways like factory. Depends on the muffler you choose and the size.

You still have a cat, which is enough for some backflow (debatable topic) you need some but not much. The setup I recommended will be exactly what your looking for without loosing power or being obnoxious.

OP, I'm just going to tell you that you would be satisfied with just a muffler delete and a 2.5" Y out. You don't need an aftermarket resonator, muffler, or any of that crap.

How big is the factory muffler? The Borla ProXS are mostly all 14 x 4 x 9.5 some are slightly different but all 3 kinds(center/center, offset/center, offset/offset) have the 14 x 4 x 9.5 available in 2.5 with notch(since i believe that means there us a cut out in the valance). So going by that size which would you recommend?
