  • LFX Swap

I'm here in Alaska on vacation and we rented a 2012 Impala with the new LFX 3.6 DI engine pushing out 300HP and 262ft/lbs of TQ. Before anyone says it, I know it would be costly for only ~+50HP and ~+11lb/tq but I was just putting it out there for discussion since it is in a FWD application and not a RWD like the LLT. Any who, here are a couple pics from under the hood...

      Re: LFX Swap

Not possible. Won't fit in the G6.

Back in the day the 3.6L LY7 in the G6 was shared with other platforms. In the G6 it got 251hp 252ft-lb. In other vehicles, including the CTS, Torrent and Equinox I think, all had a different version with a different intake manifold that outputted something like 261hp and 270ft-lb or vice versa.

The new LFX most likely has the same layout as the original LY7 for other vehicles, since the Impala has a fairly large engine bay since it once house the 5.3L LS4. The LFX in the Camaro and other vehicles have this different intake manifold as well.

If you really wanted to do it, electronic support and ECM BCM issues aside, that might be your only problem. Doubtful the LY7 G6's intake manifold would bolt up to it though but theres a chance.

Honestly bolt ons and a a tune would be better bang for the buck. The motor would probably cost you few thousand by itself.

          Re: LFX Swap

Well if you had a car with a fried engine, maybe. The air intake is on the wrong side, the engine mounts are different and you would have to replumb all the lines for power steering and brakes. The back support for controllers to run it seem to top it as impossible to retro fit. However that being said they did put LS engines in Solstices, with factory support help.

            Re: LFX Swap

It won't fit unless you rearrange the whole engine bay.
Mods:Wams lx9 tune, gtp rear valance, custom Flowtech catback, volant cai and box, raceline stb, CM lowering springs, pioneer touch screen stereo, black vinyle arrow head overlays, Pontiac rear window decal and finally g6performance decals.

Not much left without dumping a few grand so I guess ill be redoing the stock sound system with polk audio everything.

              Re: LFX Swap

the LLT would be a better swap AND it WILL fit.....just fine actually...... not a fan of the LFX plastic intake manifolds no possibility of having headers......damn near imposible to port the heads.......

if your wanting to get a higher output 3.6 the llt is where its at.....all u need to is move the battery to the trunk, swap the heads and MAYBY upgrade the fuel system but it WILL fit...... you'd also have to change the water outlet to the RWD version to clear the LLT intake manifold

                Re: LFX Swap

also the engine mounts dont make a damn bit of difference as to if you can mount it in the G6........ ALL 2.8, 3.0 and 3.6s share the SAME block, and they are used in how many different platforms? there are a LOT of different mounts for the 3.6 and they all bolt up to the block you just have to use the appropriate mounts for the car you have......

                    Re: LFX Swap

Step 1. Realize a G6 really isn't worth engine swaps unless you get it for free.
                    Step 2. Accept step 1.
                    Step 3. Sell G6
Step 4. Buy car that's engineered to be "fast" from the get go
                    Step 5. Profit?

                            Re: LFX Swap

In my first post I stated that before anyone pointed it out, that I already realize that just a swap would be costly. I wanted to make a thread to discuss the idea for future reference, helpful information, and insight on the topic. If you don't have any helpful input other than "don't do it" or "it would cost too much" or repetitive agreeing on an above reply and so on, please don't junk up the thread.
