    Re: Adding Paddleshifters

i guess i forgot about this thread, but i sucessfully did this almost a year ago and all that is needed is to add ONE WIRE...however those that cant solder/ improvise will need a new stering wheel clock spring coil..... the stock one on those that didnt come with paddle shifters has 2 EXRTRA pins un used, BUT they are cut off short so that even if you get extra terminals to install into the stock connector they wont reach the contacts......

and you do need the whole wheel as the older models dont have the cutouts or mounting points for the paddles the only thing not yet workin are the info and enter buttons and im not sure if its a wireing or programming problem, as i also have the 09.5 cluster installed and working minus the stering wheel controls for the DIC

also beware the malibu wheels with paddle shifters arent alway leathwer wheels as i found out the hard way, and the buttons light up green rather than red

        Randomly popping in here.

There's a interesting read on how a guy managed to add paddle shifters to his G8. Basically took the parts from a 5th gen Camaro SS, which has the same steering wheels as the G8. Then he wired the shifters directly to the same circuits that are on the tapshift mode buttons/switches/sensors on the main shifter in tapshift mode. Bypassing doing anything to the ECM at all.

Buying tapshift controls from a 2009.5+ G6 and doing the same thing should work.

        Missed and not forgotten. Traded.

Erik, Do you know if the shifters installed on the G8 about would fit the G6s? I like the steering wheel shifters but I think I like the idea of shifting with my finger tips rather than having to use my thumbs.

Anyone have an idea if this might work?

No idea. The G8 and Camaro apparently share a steering wheel or they are close enough where they work. it's possible thye might mount on the G6 no idea.

              Re: Adding Paddleshifters

If people would just read this thread particulaly part of this last page you would see the questions of it it would work, and what buttons to use already answered, YES adding paddle shifter can be done, YES you would use the G6 steeringwheel and paddle shifters seeing how G6s came from the factory with them, and YES you have to be very electrically inclined to make them work unless you can find a new clockspring with more circuits and the factory correct pins to add into the existing harness, and its just 1 wire that need to be added from the steering wheel to the floor shift assembly

                Re: Adding Paddleshifters

Hey SexyG6, I seen you had done this. I too am doing this mod right now. I just started it without looking to see if it was done. So now I know I'm going to be the second one on Here to do this. I just need to do the clock spring swap and then I'm done. I'm wiring up the purple to have it ready. So I should be done with this before the month is over. You can see mine at http://www.g6performance.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=26089.

Okay. I have an idea. I'm going to put together a poll to see who has done this and who will do this. That would be a nice poll to have on here. Maybe even have a poll for the instrument swap you had done?
