I didn't ask the question but im used to getting the same answer when someone asks or i ask about modding the 6 save your money and get a gto or a g8 g6's are slow etc... lol... all well maybe one day someone or me will spend(waste) the money and see what you can get

i will be a dick and say waste because i did it. and what am i doing? parting it out for a goat. im not trying to discourage, im just telling stories of past experiences.

well that was your choice, and a gto is a awesome car more power easier to mod lots more mods etc but just want something diff... i know people have custom clutches made and that would be the weakest point then some bigger output shafts so your not snaping... and hopefully it could handle 300hp-315 to the wheels... i would be happy with that

I'm mad cause about 2 months ago I was looking into the possibility of trading the 6 for a gto. Couldn't find one for a low enough price. I could have got $12k for the 6. So the other day I was working at the dealership and a guy about my age shows up with his gto for some service. He got it locally for $13k 2 months ago! Grrrr! If I would have found that I would have bought it. It had some nice wheels a catback and cai on the 6.0!!!! The worst part was that his kid didn't know crap about cars. Now that I think about it he had it towed there because it wouldn't start. He was messing with something under the hood and slammed the hood shut with the fuse box cover open and it didn't close all the way and jammed. That's probably why it wouldn't start. The hood was open.

Anyways I had to vent.

All in All, in this case the slush box 4spd is more setup for power rated at 280 HP and 280 lbs of torque and theres aftermarket suport for it because of the many years from the GTP Grand Prix supercharger.

Whoooa! Aftermarket for the 4spd! You have my attention! Please explain.

lol jk but from what i found the getrag F40 is rated for 295 not 245, and some guy on daewootech thinks the tranny with new clutch can handle 500?

this is what he said on the forum
I will dig up the links to show the tranny and it's specifications.... but Getrag Rates it at 295lbft of torque which means it should take upwards of 500lbft or more without a problem.

and actually with more searching there was a guy that did a swap and was making 581 whp with the stock F40 and he blew 2 trannys up lost second gear both times the second time it actually riped through the casing lol... but from what im reading it seems that it has no problems handling power...

and also the cobalt ss use saabs f35 tranny which is only rated for 260 torque

So I wonder how much power the 6spd manual and 4 spd auto can really handle before detonation. Who might know or how can we find these figures? Anyone?

And seriously what aftermarket is there for the 4spd?

well the boom point for the f40 is 581hp and 532 torque...... hmmm im sure it can handle 300-335 to the wheels with no problems now

Well I just consulted Mr. Google and I found this company. Triple Edge Performance. This is for my tranny the 4T65E...

"7/8" Single Chain Upgrade kit $294.95 - The stock dual chain setup works great but once you start making power above the 300whp :P mark and make frequent track passes, especially with slicks, they will fail and break which leaves you stranded. These single chain conversion kits use a Borg / Morse HyVo 7/8" chain and estimated ratings are 400-450 WHP. Higher WHP levels than that really need to upgrade to the GM Racing 1" chain set"

They also rebuild trannys for people. There's a guy that has a 1999 Grand Prix GTP that I think has the same tranny as me and he was running 12.9sec@112mph. That's a 10 year old grand prix that can scar Z06's!!

hmm see niether trannys are crap!.... like i said the colbalt guys use the f35 which is a 5 speed version of the f40 and it comes from the factory with a lower tq rating (260) than the f40 (295) and they are running 300 all the way up to 400 hp with no problems....
