I didnt know the malibu seats are diffrent, thats really cool to know! That should be a direct bolt in with airbags and all and or a swap like you sugest with the inserts. That is great to know! I am def going to look into that!
Yup, let me know if you need any help my best friend is an on site engineer at the plant where both seats are made
    Cool, thanks!

Am going to see this weekend I can hit up a dealership with a malibu in stock

      Re: Seat recomendations for comfort.....

      Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I have a 2008 sedan that I mostly like, except for the front seats. They are by far the worst seats ever. Zero low back support (regardless of lumbar adjustment setting) and the seat cushion feels like you are sitting in a hole.

Did anyone ever find out whether the GM stablemates Chev Malibu, or Saturn Aura seats are better, and if so can they be swapped into the G6? Alternatively does anyone know of an aftermarket seat that will work in the G6?

This car is breaking down my back something awful.

My seats are definitely more uncomfortable than the ones in my Impala, but I never really had any problem on long road trips. I went to Florida and back with no major issues and that was about 60 hours round trip.

Also, if you do find out whether seats from another car will work, just pick some up from a junk yard. They'll be cheaper than getting them from a dealer.

I hate my seats too. It was totally unbearable until I used a small cushion which made it 100X more comfortable. Some of my friends would not ride in my car because of the poor seats.

i dont mind them at all. mind you the front seats are bucket seats from a car that wants to be a sports sedan so theyre trying to be cradleing your body in them.

                  Re: Seat recomendations for comfort.....

                  Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I see that some people are fine in their seats, so I am hoping to see if any pattern emerges like whether the high end G6 (or Malibu/Aura) models have better seats. Physically I’m a skinny, tall guy and I wonder if that may be a common factor.

I’m currently using ObusForme low back, backrest supports. These make the seats more tolerable but I’m still sitting in a hole. I cannot put a cushion underneath because I’m 6’1 and there’s not enough headroom.

It’s not just me, I remember reading a media review several years back when the G6 came out and the reviewer commented that no matter how hard he (or she) tried could not find a comfortable driving position.

I like the car otherwise with its terrific styling, good power, decent gas mileage, huge rear seat, and it always starts. Unfortunately the front seats spoil this otherwise very decent vehicle.

Couldn't agree more. If the seats can go lower and the seat bottoms can be tilted it would have been perfect.
Funny how such a small problem can completely spoil the driving pleasure.

My back has gotten a little numb after driving like 6 hrs before in my g6 but I would think any car could do that lol, my gtp is also a rare breed of having a decent amount of options but no leather. But yeah you need to get a Mercedes, they have really nice seats lol.

Many cars have nice comfy seats, even other GMs have terrific seats.
For some reason I find the ones in the G6 the worst ever.

                          Re: Seat recomendations for comfort.....

This morning I had the opportunity to sit in a Malibu. Even though they look similar the seats were far more comfortable. I didn’t want to overstay my welcome but what I quickly gathered was the driver’s seat had power 6-way adjustments (with tilt). Importantly the cushions felt firmer which also aided the lumbar support.

This gives me something to go on. I will investigate the mechanical and electrical potential to swap the seating. I’m not young enough to tackle on my own so will check with a GM dealer (for the install) and a wrecker (for the seats) and then weigh the economics.

As someone else revived the 4 year old thread...I found this over on a Malibu forum.

                            From Wikipedia:

"Vehicles based on the Epsilon I platform:

                            2003 Saab 9-3
                            2004 Chevrolet Malibu
                            2006 Cadillac BLS

                            Extended
                            2003 Opel Signum
                            2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
                            2005 Pontiac G6
                            2005 Fiat Croma
                            2007 Saturn Aura
                            2008 Chevrolet Malibu"
How do I set a laser printer to stun?

i think their decently comfortable, the farthest ive drive mine was 300 miles and my back was hurting a bit. my mom has a mitsubishi eclipse and i cant go more than 50 miles in that thing without have to stop and get out because the seats are terrible in it. ive drove a mercedes CLS 63 amg and couldnt stand the seat being in it for 5 mins so i guess its just how you perfer it.

Hmmm... I drove 16 hours in my G6 coupe with cloth interior and everything seemed perfectly fine. Also, Tom in Toronto, I highly doubt you don't have enough headroom as I'm 2'' taller than you and still have fine room.

It seems as though the leather seats are what cause the majority of your problems.

Also, are you sitting on your wallet? lol
