Likewise... if you're going Northstar Route... why not just go all out with a LS1 They're cheap now.
Well, the ole wallet played a huge part in my choice in engines. I got the N* for $500.00 I worked with the guy who had it. He crashed the caddy and, only had liability so he was for a better word srooged.. A couple of years past and he was tired of seeing it and wanted it gone. At the time I was thinking of doing the 4.9 caddy swap. He asked what I would give for the engine and everything else I needed. So the deal was done. I would LOVE to go with an LS1 but the kits are really expensive. The N* kit I have was built locally by a guy that does all kinds of swaps for various cars. Tally on the install kit $350.00 Now all that is left is for me to choose that trans Im going to use and, have the axles custom made around the choice. I'll probly be in this whole thing for under $1500.00 turn key If I go with my 5 speed that is. That isn't to bad at all from what I have seen other people spend on a swap.

make sure you get the northstar resealed b4 you put it in.

you dont want to have to reseal it after you put it in the car
You make a good point there as the car sat for about 2 years before I got the engine out of it. Man, you are right that would suck to have to drop that thing out again.

I have been looking for an 88GT to put a Cobalt SS Turbo Ecotec in with the trans(no lift shift) I found one but I didnt have the money at the time and I need to call the guy to see if he still has it.
An Ecotech swap has been done don't know if they are in kit form or not. But if you have some time and the skills anything is doable.

Why not a turbo V6 there?

With simple parts and tune you can squeeze 350hp with almost 400 torque in that little shoebox...

As for tranny, well a 200r4 with 2800 stall converter or T5 would work nice
Eh.... Im not a fan of turbos on something I'll drive a lot more once it is done. Im thought about doing a 3.8 GN style set up in my 86 once but never got hold of the engine. I have seen first hand some wild turbo set ups first hand along with just about all the swaps you can think of.

There is a huge meet in my area every April and people come from all over the country with them.

I had two in the past, a 84 and a 87. Great styling but couldn't stand the driving position. Had lots of problems with the electrials. The 2.5 Ironduke was very coarse. A swap would be a huge improvement.
Yea I had trouble at first when I got my 86 10 years ago but, now I love it. Kinda like an oversized gocart

I missed my Fieros now. Pontiac builds excitement. Except for the Solstice, nothing on the road today is as cool as the Fiero for the price.

Yea, We build excitement those were the days Now all there is to look foward to is CRAP GM has lost its luster with me. Seems like every and any car I ever like they either kill it off or trash it in the next gen. From what I have seen from some of the prototypes they are looking into building some of the cars in chevy form If that serves as a comparison look at a base Cobalt next to a base G5 you will know what I mean. Thier interiors just don't look as good to me. That is why any vehicle that had a counter part in chevy the Pontiac was alway a little more expensive. I always thought it was worth the extra amount.

As far as cheap Fiero's those are beginning to be as rare as the Fiero's them selves. There is a guy a block over from me that has one. Matter of fact a rare 87 Meditteranian Blue GT. I and several others have tried to save this car for years all he ever says. IS RARE Cant find them anymore yet I have gone up there in three different ones. It is worth a lot of money..... yea WAS at one time. Last time I looked at it it was buried about 6 inches in the dirt from all the crap piled on top of it. Some people eh?
