NO.... I'm not a moron.. Yes this was a Moron mistake. I was going up an ramp and reached down to grab something and turned to sharpy. Pulling over the crub, I drove 2 blocks and pulled over to see the damage. Knowing slamming on my brakes on a free way off ramp would not be the best of ideas. The damage happened all in the same mess up, I just pulled ahead to prevent traffic problems.

                Dude i'm not that stupid..

                    its the oil pan
the trans pan is just covered as well from the oil blowing back as he drove home

if it makes you feel better i can think of at least 2 other ecotechs where people cracked the pan

Re: Oil Pan Leak --- HELP

a quick fix would be using some JB weld on a oil free pan.
So drain that sucker, clean it well with some brake cleaner and mix a small patch of epoxy.
At least you will reduce the leak.

And by looking at the pics, you can have that pan repaired with proper weld, unless the pan cost cheap.

If you have access to a wheel ramp and some basic tools and a lot of rags, you can DIY this.

i wouldnt jb weld it except to drive it to a shop to get it replaced and thats it.

it could be weldable but theyd be welding aluminum so youd have to find someone to do that for cheaper then the price of a pan

Re: Oil Pan Leak --- HELP

WOW.. Yeah not even close to repair cost I was thinking. The cost is $235 for the pan (which is on backorder, I swear every part for this freaking car is on backorder), and 5-6 hours labor. Total cost to fix = $850... I almost had a heart attack. I considered makeing in insurance claim. The problem being is that freaking oil pan is attached to every part of the lower engine, they have to cradle the engine of the of car and detach half the car to remove it. So I was to say the least pissed off..

My shop I go to is going to try to use some epoxy and they've cleaned the area very well also cleaned out inside the pan a little bit with the drain hole as well as the dip stick tube using a few different cleaners. (Yes I trust these people, they are insured and very nice) With the hopes that they clean it well enough and apply the epoxy to prevent any future leaks. Worse case is that it doesn't work and i'm out a hour or so of labor, and 30 bucks in parts and shop supplies (yes they got a spiecal epoxy), best case is this will last a while and i won't need to worry about it. I'm guessin this will give me some time (few months) to put together some funds to deal with the $850 in repairs this will cost.

I will let you know what the outcome is..

seriously that job only pays like 3 hours and they dont have to pull the cradle they are full of it

no where in there does it say to remove the cradle and obviously one AC compressor bolt is not half the engine

Ensure that the oil pan and the sealing surface on the lower crankcase are free of all oil and debris.
Apply a 2 mm (0.079 in) bead of sealant (1) around the perimeter of the oil pan and the oil suction port opening. DO NOT over apply the sealant. More than a 2 mm (0.079 in) bead is not required. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants .
                            Install the oil pan.

                            Install the oil pan bolts.

Ensure that the oil pan drain plug is tightened.

Re: Oil Pan Leak --- HELP

I'm sorry, I stand corrected. My mechanic was going off of a manual and it says 5.5 hours of work. But he wasn't sure it would take that long. I called the dealer to just be safe and they quoted me $670 ish. Either way its going to be pricey!!

Instead I spent $150.00 at my mechanic and they did an epxoy cover over the bottom of the oil pan. I swear this stuff is stronger then the metal on the oil pan. It seems to be working GREAT! I've already drove around everywhere and its not leaking at all. I guess the only real test now is time. I'm sure it will be fine..
