  • Whistling from the engine at partial throttle

I've got a 2007 GT Vert with the 3.9L engine. Recently started noticing a "whistling" from the engine compartment at partial throttle. Still have stock filter and stock airbox. Either I'm crazy and its always been there, or its just developed. Tending to think its just developed. I don't THINK the belt is loose, as it would indicate an idler pully already dying for it to lose pressure on it, I would think.
    Any ideas?

My idler was replaced already. Had less than 20k on it. So it is possible. Andy can check the tsb's for you.

Thanks, that was really about the only thing I could think of. I'm still under warranty so not really concerned about that part. I just prefer going in to have the work done already knowing generally what the problem might be.

Check all your connections. Something is loose if its a stock box.
non stock whistle is normal with the K&N.

I'll check that also. When the oil was changed last (yes I slacked and didn't do it myself last time), they may have messed around and not got the airbox lid on right. I'll take a look when the wife gets home.

                    your good

checked them and saw nothing for whistling or any other noise while accelerating

is it a loud whistle or kind of quiet

Remember if "the" and "and" are spelled right its not a genuine Ahuhn post

It actually gets rather loud. And its at a very specific throttle position. Little more or a little less pedal and it goes away. The sound is very similar to a cold air intake whistle. Just the very specific throttle position, no matter what the rpm, part is what throws me.

Did this whistle sound like a turbo? Well not exactly... But you know what I mean? I used to have an 05' G6 GT.... When I slammed the gas it made a loud whistle sound..... Found out it was the Air intake sucking air... Not leaks..... It was all stock

Well, here's the update. They said its the exhaust, actually. Said they found a crack in the u-bend. Replaced that, still there. Next they replaced the catalytic converter. Noise is still there, according to them. Now they're waiting on final parts supposed to be in tomorrow to apparently replace the whole exhaust system.
I guess I should be irritable, but honestly, they've been treating us very good. They're trying their best and always have. Oh yes, the loaner car they gave us is a loaded 2008 Yukon SLT. Gotta admit, a pretty nice ride.
I'll update again as soon as I get more news.

Can't complain too much when the dealer is doing they're best. Many dealers would have just given you the car back after the first "fix" and let you come back 20 times.

Very true. This really is a rare dealership. My wife deals with them for the most part since its right by her work and she's learned cars about as well as me. They know her by voice on the phone and can't think that I've ever had a problem with them. This is the second car we've bought from them, and imagine whatever GMC and Pontiacs we get in the future will come from them.
(That damn G8 is looking real good with the 6 speed.)
Hoping for more info tomorrow. (well, today).
