  • 07 G6 GT Fuel pump issue

So some history on our 07 g6, we bought it as a one year old car with 32k miles and have almost 125k on it now in six years. It has been a great car. Gets great gas mileage and has been a great car to us. We have ran mobil 1 in it since the day we bought it and even with 6k miles on the oil it still looks great. We have only had to replace the water pump at 58k miles and a t-fitting in the cooling system at 112k miles. Well today I get it in to run an errand and it cranks as usual then when I put it in drive it cut off and has not started back up since, I have checked all the relays in the fuse box under the hood beside the battery, and in the trunk. And she still wont start. I know we have been very lucky with this car and I don't mind replacing the fuel pump if that's what it is. I have been a mechanic in the military for 6 years and in the civilian world for almost 15 years. Any help that you guys and gals could give me would be excellent. Thank you so much.

To be sure it's the fuel pump, pop the fuel line that comes to the engine and try to start your car. If no gaz is spilling from the line when you try to start, then the fuel pump needs to be replace.

I tried to pull that line off yesterday, I removed the clip but the line would not come apart. Does it need the special tool to remove it? Or was I just not putting enough butt behind it?

What I have heard, is that the G6 just needs the screen to be blown clean. This screen is the fuel filter. Clean that and see if that will help. I am interested to see how the fuel tank looks when dropped to the ground. I hope the fuel pump is an easy fix.

There is an Acrobat pdf. file on this link to show you the step by step on how to drop your fuel tank and remove your fuel pump.

Re: 07 G6 GT Fuel pump issue

I tried to lay on the ground and had my wife in the car and turn the key on and the only sound I heard was the electronics under the hood, I never heard the slightest hum from the tank. I saw on here that there is a relay behind the passenger side headlight for the fuel pump. My question is that why would there be a relay in the trunk and one under the hood? Or was the relay behind the headlight for an older model g6?

Do you have a Chilton for the 6 yet? If you don't, I would advise getting one. I use it 85% of the time during a maintenance job. However, I did not use it for when I changed out my power steering high pressure hose. I only needed a picture for reference. Still, it is very helpful. I also wondered what the fuses in the trunk were for.

No I don't have one yet because we haven't had any trouble out of it until now. I have been trying to find ways to troubleshoot it before I buy one.

That's one way. I guess there is some place, besides here, that can get you step-by-step on how to fix issues. If I can't fix it myself I usually have a mechanic. But so far it has been 4 times that has happened. If my engine blows up, I'll just buy a suped up motor from Milzy motorsports. Including their transmission to hand the improved ponies.

So what is the update on the fuel pump issue?

I think CruisingG6 has the wiring diagrams for your car. Maybe he can help you to find what is the relay for.

07' G6 GT 3.5L here. Had my fuel pump spitting gas all over my tank last fall. I had it replaced before it quit pumping. I'd say replace the pump. I also just did my water pump 140k miles and the power steering pump at 145k miles. They failed at the same time and the drive belt threw the fluid all over everything.

Maybe you still can return it or cancel order?
