  • Brake locking up.....??

Any ideas on what would cause just the front right brake caliper to slowly compress?

I noticed it felt like I was fighting the car like the brakes were on...pulled over and there was smoke coming off the wheel....it got that hot.

Then it went away.....seems to be coming back more often. Its almost like the master cylinder has a mind of its own but it doesnt affect any other caliper....

Ideas?? I looked it over and dont see any ruptures or issues....

I had to replace that caliper before for same reason.

I wonder if something could have become lodged in the line blocking fluid from going back to the cylinder when you let go...

          Re: Brake locking up.....??

Probably not as it is a sealed system... ahuhn is correct. If you changed your brake pads and noticed this issue after changing them I would look to see that the rubber flex brake line attaching to the caliper is not twisted in any way as this will also lead to the same problem. Also check to make sure that your brake pads are installed correctly, sometimes you can't always spot a difference between the pads but it can make a difference. If everything looks correct I would first replace the caliper on that side and if that doesn't work try replacing the rubber flex I mentioned earlier. The rubber can sometimes fall apart on the inside stopping pressure from leaving the caliper causing it to lock up. I hope this helps.

^agreed, I'd check the seal on the piston and see if its binding up. I've had other vehicles where the piston seal has gone to hell and caused issues.

AT 130,000 miles maybe a fluid flush is in order. When I turn the car off and then on again the problem goes away.
Its intermittent. About once a week or so. Im thinking the line....

Gonna have to pull it and look. ugh.... Can you say Brembo Upgrade??

                I can say Brembo upgrade

I'm also thinking its the line, after time the walls on the rubber hose tend to cave in causing problems. If you just changed the brakes and had a really hard time compressing the piston then that is more than likely it, of course it could be the caliper too??

I know at one point you were talking about getting the stainless steel braided brake lines so...

Oh my bad, I thought they already had them made. I would just replace the lines, that might be your cheapest option unless you wanna do the brembo conversion.
