Re: Water Leakage from Sunroof into Rear of Car and on Seatbelts

I had to take mine in twice as they didn't fix it the first time. Apparently there "water leak specialist" was not in the first time according to the dealer. That was summer of 2007 and no leaks since, knock on wood.

Re: Water Leakage from Sunroof into Rear of Car and on Seatbelts

        Hey Guys,

Just bought a 2009 G6 Coupe w/sunroof. I have a garage so it hasn't been exposed to long periods of rain yet; but when I took it to the car wash (automatic car wash w/wind blowers), I saw water dripping on the rear passenger side, all the way to the rear where the gray headliner joins the black plastic trim. Now I believe the sunroof issue was fixed on the assembly line for the 2009's; would that be a safe assumptions? If so, could it be the exterior wheatherstrip (black rubber) between the rear window glass and 1/4 panel sheet metal?? Looking at it, I see some gaps and I even see a little bit of black sealant added on the driver side!! The car is brand new with no signs of interior flooding.

        Any advice is appreciated.

        Thanks

It could be on the weather stripping, then again those jet blowers put out so much pressure they could have lifted something and made their own path long enough to let some water in.

You're right... it felt like the car was about to desintegrate when going through the wind blower thing... Anyway, I found it strange though that there was black material added on the rear left weatherstrip.. it's like black gum (mastic?) or silicone or something... could they have done this at the plant? I'm crossing my fingers it's just an external weatherstripping issue, as I'd hate to have to do internal surgery on a brand new car...

I don't mind doing it myself...it's just the idea of ripping the interior and having to deal with loose trim or squeak & Rattle down the road...

you have to have an account like photo bucket and then paste in the img code
                    Code:

from that it looks like some one may have gotten a little sloopy at the factory. im gonna guess that there may be some sealer missing around the window or something. i would take it in for warrenty and have them take care of it

Right on... took it in yesterday and it was indeed the rear quarter window seal. I was happy they could reproduce the leak (90% of the time, dealer "Can't reproduce" problems)... they removed the weatherstrip, resealed the window and replaced the weatherstrip... took it to high-pressure car wash after that and it passed the test!.. somebody must have really gotten sloppy at the plant... I don't blame them UAW workers... or should I??
