Re: Official Oil change discussion
I have had my g6 20k miles. has 103K miles, its a 08 coupe.
I run mobil one full synthetic for first 10K miles.
The last 10k miles i have put high mileage in. I run KN oil filter aswell. They were cheap, 4-5$ each, and oil is 25$ max. Every 3000-3500 miles. I think i pushed it to 4K miles this winter because it was cold as hell out in MN. Put 2700 miles onto the car in 6 weeks now since I changed it last.

Re: Official Oil change discussion
I'm about to order my oil and get the change done after the crankshaft seal is replaced. I had it changed once and I still leak around the crankshaft's main seal. I have been running 10w30 royal purple xpr and xps. Xpr for the longer part and Xps recently. I use Kendall titanium synthetic oil in my wife's 05 pathfinder. This time, since the winter is approaching, I'm going to run 5w30 Royal Purple this time.
I am thinking of running it all the time no matter the season.Last edited by GMManof3; 10-06-2014, 09:10 PM.

Re: Official Oil change discussion
Well he told me to wait because if it gets any worse the warranty company will pay for it. Yes this is completely stupid as they should've covered both while he was already pulling the trans and working in engine.

Re: Official Oil change discussion
I would have told him to replace it anyways. and pay out of pocket, might ass well since he had the bottom of the motor off. the seal is cheap. like 20-30 bucks

Re: Official Oil change discussion
Thanks for the help guys. I just had my rear main changed yesterday, and luckily the extended warranty I bought with car covered (600$). The mechanic also said oil is "seeping" from the front crank seal, but warranty company doesn't cover seepage. I asked about the synthetic because I prefer to run Mobil 1 as I always have before, but he told me about possibly causing leak. I can't deal with any more work on this car! Hopefully things will get better with it. Thanks for prompt response

yes.. if you have solid wear on an older motor that isn't leaking, putting syn in can induce leakage or seeping, but the oil isnt the cause or the trigger.. its a worn motor

I'm just shy of 120,000 miles and I have a minor oil leak (front main seal, very common on the 3.5/3.9 as they share the same block). I'm sure its caused by my abuse on the motor. (mountain roads and driving it like I stole it)
most main seals will leak around 100k miles or a lil more. main seals are "wear seals" meaning they can and will wear out due to normal use. Driving style will not affect these seals. I had a leak in mine, and I just used a dose of the Lucas Oil Leak Stop for 3000 miles and good bye leak (for now). It'll return and eventually the seal will need to be replaced.
If Picobread wanted to run a blend for a few changes and see what happened, I'm sure that would be a good route. A couple oil additives wouldn't be a bad idea to fun for an oil change.

Re: Official Oil change discussion
Hi guys, got a question for y'all: my mechanic told me not to switch to synthetic oil in my car. He said since it was over 120,000 miles and most likely synthetic has not been used in it that regular conventional is best. He said the seals could begin to leak if I changed to synthetic oil. My last car had always been babied with oil changes every 6,000 with Mobil 1 only. Does anyone have any additional information about this? Would synthetic mix do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Official Oil change discussion
Is there a PCV valve on our cars? I can't seemed to find it.

Re: Official Oil change discussion
I did the fuel, the oil, and the PCV valve, not but maybe a little puff of white smoke.
I did the fuel and the oil, drove it for about a little over a day to and from work etc. Nothing. Today I did the PCV valve for about a 1/3 of the can. Nothing. Guess she's clean
Edit: Sorry that this ended up hereInitially it was about cleaning up the engine before switching to Synthetic (which I will be changing to the oil here in a few hours).
