Re: Spy Photos: 2009/2010 Pontiac G6 Coupe
What about the Solara? It seems like it competes with the G6 Coupe.
If it weren't for the fact that 2008s got a lot more standard features than my 2007 (Like TPS and RDS), the crappy resale of the G6, the poor around-town fuel economy, and the fact that I'd like to get rid of it for a pickup I'd say it's a damn fine car.
IIRC the Solara is no more. The butt-ugly Venza replaces it as the mutated Camry.

This is how the Epsilons work now, as I see it:
(Vertically Priced low to high)
Malibu vs Camry, Accord, Sonata, basically anyone who needs a midsize car because they need one
G6 vs Mazda6, Altima/base Maxima, Accord EX, TSX, for those who want something sportier
Aura vs Passat, uplevel luxury trims of the cars, for premium volume, basically where the Alero should have been
9-3 vs base 3 series, base C-Class, A4, i.e. entry luxury
In fact, I've been in the 9-3, it really shouldn't be classified along with the other Epsilons. The size if it is actually closer to a Cobalt.
Also a worthy note, the G6 is the ONLY one with a coupe, i.e. the Altima Coupe is the primary target. I'm sure the G6 coupe absorbed some Grand Prix coupe and Monte Carlo buyers too when those cars were discontinued. The 9-3 has a convertible, but the G6 vert is way cheaper, two different markets.
Killing the G6 is quite a share of customers there. We simply can't assume buyers will just stay loyal with GM and migrate to other divisions, that's old GM thinking.
I do agree there seems to be an overlap of the Malibu, G6 and the Aura right now, but that's because both the Malibu went upmarket while the G6 stayed where it is. And we know the Aura was basically the G6's twin since launch. With the Aura becoming the Opel Insignia, the gap between the G6 and the Aura will widen. Killing the G6 will just make a huge vacuum between the Malibu and the Aura, once the Aura continues its quest to go upmarket. That's just more reason why more work should be done on the G6, if you ask me.
But on a positive look, at least they are doing a bit work on the G6. Giving us a rebadged Malibu is as sensible as reviving the L-Body Tempest.
