  • GM Major Guard Extended Warranty

Looking at GM's Major Guard extended warranty. I have 30k on my '06 GTP and plan on having the car for 3-4 more years. The plan i'm looking at is for a 4yr/72k miles (This will leave me covered for 107k miles).

    $0 Deductible - $2500
    $100 Ded. - $2000
    $200 Ded. - $1640

The deductible is per vist, and not per issue. So if I have a few things getting worked on, the visit will only cost me the deductible. This also inclues towing/rental (with limitations of course).

So anyone have any experience with these? Worth it or no?

If you can afford it, I'd go with the 0 deductible and I'd take it. Full bumper to bumper for over 100k miles = ftw.

20% Tint, Cross-Drilled & Slotted Rotors, Red Painted Calipers, 6000k H.I.D., LED Interior Lights, Carbon Fiber GM Interior, 18" SenDel S26 rims, Volant CAI.
Wish List: Homelink, Black Sabersport projector headlights

Who is going to provide the actual coverage, GM or your local dealer? Can you provide more info? (links, documentation)

Check the fine print, read it and be extremely sure that you understand it, if in doubt, ask and confront the answers on the contract. If isnt specify there, you loose. Anything not written, is against you and assume NOTHING. After you pay, is too late for doubts or questions.

I had seen these so called extended warranties revoked because the owner change their wiper blades, wheels (same size and specs) radio and even tires size.

The most remarkable denial of warranty was because the engine seized.....the insurance company denied the claim because the owner had a custom sound equipment that "prevented the engine oiling system to lubricate properly whenever the non OEM sound system was used and/or the elevated decibel level affected the ECM performance in detecting such failure"
Thats what the insurance company said...... in the real world.....the engine seized because a faulty or wrong oil filter as used, the filter allowed oil to leak past the gasket causing a low oil level situation and seizing the engine. The owner was unaware of this and there is no way that the car ECU could detect such failure, OEM or non OEM sound equipment.

      NOTE
      This wasnt a GM car.

Let me know as I am looking for this type of coverage myself and I can help you on checking that crappy fine print.

GMPP is the GM extended warrenty. when you take it your dealer for the most part it acts like a regular warrenty except you have to pay an amount for the repairs (the deductable). b4 repairs are made however the deealer has to call in and make sure that the repair is covered (most are typicaly just maintenece items arnt). if repairs start getting really pricey ie engine replacement they may send out an adjuster to verify that it wasnt caused by neglect or other related things (not like a radio seizing an engine). overall GMPP is probly the best way to go because alot of aftermarket warrentys dont cover electric power steering (like most of us have)

I have a GMPP on my car to 100,000kms, but I'm thinking of asking for a refund. It cost me $1200 at the time and honestly, I don't think I'll ever use it. My G6 hasn't gone in for warranty in about 6 months. I think I've found all of the little bugs and squashed 'em.

Pretty sure it's 72,000 total vehicle miles from original in service odometer reading.

edit: nope looks like you're right! damn i shoulda waited till 30k to buy my GMPP.

Since this is already a warranty thread I have a question. If my car is past it's warranty, can I get an extended warranty or not?

I'm not sure about other warranty companies, but you can't get the GMPP warranty if your warranty has expired.

Depends on a pre-inspection, how much time/mileage has past since the original warranty expired.
Its up to the insurer to accept your car or to ask for a higher rate just because of this.

The pre-inspection phase is independent (at least here) whether the car still in warranty or not.
