Re: Add cruise control, 06 express Van help/info

Installed new wheel for my 09 G6 and cruise works. Up button on radio does nothing, down button mutes radio. Volume works good and 1-6 seeks channels.

so to add cruise you just need to add the buttons???

and for the radio you need to take it to the dealer and have them program the radio for UK3

Puchased leather wheel with buttons and cruise works.

What radio option is UK3 stand for and what radio option would I have now?

How can I add RKE on base model? Is the RCDLR already in the vehicle as part of the TPM?? Where is it located, and what would need to be done to install besides the remotes?

Re: Add cruise control, 06 express Van help/info

i belive its UK3 but its for steering wheel controls and you just wouldnt have it as an option

as far as keyless entry. you would probly need a new RCDLR and then possibly reprogramming of the BCM and it may work. most people have just gone aftermarket if they wanted keyless entry and it wasnt originaly installed

Re: Add cruise control, 06 express Van help/info

A little update, my diesel truck 06 chevy express 6.6L should have cruise control on it now. That was just plug and play, just intstall the cruise control switch into the pre-exsisting wiring harness under the dash. When I talked to my mechanic it was about to try it out around 3pm and never checked back. Monday I will know for sure.

Now on my 07 chevy express with the 4.8L V8 gas isnt as simple of plug and play. I have the kit for it and goes in after the diesel express. The 4.8L needs a cruise control box added then the cruise control switch gets intstalled then that should have it too then.

Re: Add cruise control, 06 express Van help/info

I bought a leather steering wheel on e-bay with the cruise control buttons on the left side and the radio buttons on the right side of the wheel like this one but in better shape. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-06...Q5fAccessories
When you get the new wheel, you will notice there are 2 holes on the back side of the top spokes. The air bag is held in place by two pins on each side by a spring. Find an allen wrench that fits the holes and that will compresses the springs to remove the air bag. You will see how it works on the new steering wheel.
To remove the old wheel, get a loaner steering wheel puller from O'Reilly's or such, disconnect the battery, wait for about 10 minutes to power down the air bag system, then use the allen wrench to compress the springs one at a time and remove the air bag. Remove the 2 color coded wire plugs from the back of the air bag, set it aside. Disconnect the rectangle plug with the horn wires from the clock spring. Loosen the center nut on steering shaft; pull the wheel with the puller. Do it all in reverse with the new steering wheel and hope it works.
When installing the air bag, just line up the pins with holes and press into the horn ring, check your wires so you don't pinch them.
Google air bag removal and such, there are pics and more info.

that sounds like it should be pretty easy. so when you took the old wheel off was the wiring for the cruise and radio buttons just sitting there?
and did your wheel look like mine?

Re: Add cruise control, 06 express Van help/info

The vehicle is already wired for the cruise and radio up through the column to the clock spring female rectangle plug. The male rectangle plug on the old wheel just has the horn wires and a lot of empty holes.

The new wheel has the cruise and radio switches plus the horn wires on the male plug.

Yes mine was the same wheel.

I'm wanting to add cruise to my wife's '07 VL G6. When you swapped steering wheels were you able to use your original airbag?

                          Thanks,

                          Derek

as long as the wheels look the same you can use the same airbag

so if you go from a 3 spoke to a 3 spoke (which you should be) youll be fine

Is your car the base model or the "value leader" or whatever they call it? I looked into adding keyless entry to our '07 VL and all the info I could find said that the base models had the wiring and stuff for keyless entry...but the value leaders did not. I'm a little worried that it might be the same case with cruise. I hate to spend $60 on a new wheel and not get anywhere.

I purchased the 2009 4dr base sedan, no options at all. I don't think they have a value leader this year.

As for the keyless entry, mine didn't have a hood switch or wiring for the keyless entry with remote start from the factory, so I bought the Viper 211hv keyless entry on amazon and installed it, all the wires are at the center console. It's not bad once you figure out which wires to tap into.
