Re: Pontiac dealer offers to buy brand, GM says "Not For Sale"

If this makes sence, Pontiac is too intergraded into GM to become seperate. Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Chevy, Cadaliac, GMC, Buick are all part of the "main" office GM and use basically all the same engineers ect. To seperate Pontiac from GM would be like removing someones hand, very difficult and the hand wouldnt work without rest of you or spending billions of dollars to build a seperate object to use your hand.

Now Saturn, Opel, Saab, Holden all part of GM but have seperate engineers and/or main offices etc that work with GMs front office. Be like you walking away from your boss and starting your own company. Atlongest your boss is cool with it you can temerary use his equipment till your on your own feet and running which these companies will be doing in the next 5 years bascially.

Now Hummer is unique. GM only owns the consumer rights to build the Hummer and not the military versions. As GM only owns the right to the name of Hummer they can sell the name to anyone or kill it off and doent bother them. As they are just an "kitten apliance" to them, sell it or throw it away/stop using it doesnt really matter.

Now Vauxhall is more less now a Opel spin off brand that uses Opel and Holden vechiles. Being its just a spin off again, Opel or Holden prob can keep that brand or trash it as it doesnt matter, just all rebadge cars simular to Pontaic without the G8.

Re: Pontiac dealer offers to buy brand, GM says "Not For Sale"

          I agree with Dre256

But,, If Pontiac was to be sold, they could make arrangements to continue certain vehicles and eventually it would make its own vehicles and become its own brand, it would have to work with GM closely for a few years, but it would be completely seperate financially except that it has to pay GM for vehicles/parts /name etc. until it becomes its own thing

so the benefit of this would really only be the Pontiac name and having a customer base/recognition right from day one, rather than having to make your name and product known from scratch

You'd be surprised at the amount of money that some of the dealership owners have.

For instance in Toronto, there's Roy Foss....who owns quite a few dealerships. No clue how much money he has but I'm sure it's not chump change
yea there is the coggin PBG dealer near me, who is coggin automall or coggin auto group..

they've got dealerships all over the place with such brands as acura, bmw, ford lincoln mercury, honda, toyota scion, nissan, chevy, mercedes benz.....

            it's fuckin ridiculous...

Re: Pontiac dealer offers to buy brand, GM says "Not For Sale"

Another reason why GM wont sell Pontiac even if they could and made the cars for them, is because also Pontaic is seen as a solid GM brand. Most people know Pontiac is GM, not everyone knows Saab, Saturn, Opel is GM. So GM would be scrared Pontiac could atract GM buyers and that company might make a better car then GM when on there feet and take there bussniess from them. I think thats also why GM wont explore the ability to break Pontiac away from them, besides the part that it will be extrely difficult
