People have painted them or put chrome door trim on them. See my post in the pictures section called "shot another" for the chrome door trim on the edges.

Yeah, I like the chrome door trim idea - it looks good. I'ld see someone who went the factory chrome grilles.

Well I tried installing my new lower grilles today but had no luck removing the stock ones. I unbolted the lower flap under the bumper so i could work behind but it's still very restrictive to what I can see. There are also 3 round plastic bolts that go into the top of the stock grill and the bumper i'm guessing. What's the best way to remove those? I tried prying something flat in between but they werent budging. I read and tried following the suggestions above but those plastic bolts threw me. There's gotta be a simpler way to remove these things!

are you talking about the plastic connector things? they pull out, might seem to take alot of force because you cant get much behind it from the angle you will be using

if you get the tape all loose you will be able to get them out

              ----FACTORY GRILL

              ----OUTSIDE COVER OF GRILL (CHROME)
To take this off without damaging your car visibly i would advise to put tape on the car if you want and use a new playing card. Also once you get a small flat head in between the cover and the car, pry it toward the chrome(just to clarify: pull handle of screwdriver toward the chrome) not the car, as it will push paint in a smudge(if you pry toward car, if you pry toward chrome shouldnt do any damage).

You will notice by the pictures where the clips should be and i would start with the other edge first, then you can pull a little and it will work itself off the rest of way. If you have problems with this use the flathead to help get rest of clips out, again pry toward chrome!!!!!

              ----INNER GRILL
Once you have chrome off this is what you will see. You can see the 4 clips for the inner grill. Start with the bottom one, pop it out with flathead screwdriver and it will almost fall the rest of way out. Shouldnt need but to take the one clip out and you can wiggle to get rest if needed.

HERE IS CLIP UP CLOSE, THIS IS THE OUTER CLIP

              And that is it.
Is this the same for the recessed grills as well???

you got the recessed lowers now right?

no tape needed, when you get under the car you will see that it clips on and is only held by these clips
