    thx 4 da tips

    thanks y'all...

removing that resonator was a lot more involved than i thought it would be.

i did finally get the dang headlight out... then realized i had nothing with which to cut the resonator out. followed the write-up for removing the resonator out and FINALLY got it! WOOO HOOO!!! & it sounds GREAT.

i think i'm still gonna go with the stage 3 intake (at least now i know how to get the headlight out & wont have to mess with the resonator when it comes time to put the new intake in).

again... thanks for the "how to"

Well, I just got done pulling mine out. I hadn't plan on actually doing it until this weekend, but I started looking at it and as soon as I realized how easy it was, I was elbow deep in it. I got it out in an hour and a half. The half was spent looking around and figuring out my next steps. I did not have to pull the bolts out from the bumper to get the it out; I simply pulled the two clips out from the skirt just infront of the wheel well and the damn thing fell out the bottom. Slick as snot. I haven't really noticed a difference in sound except during acceleration though.

Honestly, you wont. Its just a hollow tube with an air chamber to help bounce the air noise off the walls to dampin the air intake noise. If you threw your car on a dyno before and after I doubt you would see a gain.

Its just engine noise gain at WOT

When I recked my car I told the body shop not to put it in. That was easy for me. If anybody wants one I have a new one.

Taking this thing out was a royal pain in the ass! I couldnt believe how much trouble I had. First I couldnt get the resonator loose because I tried to do it without taking the wheel well off. I couldnt reach the damn screw holding the resonator behind the resonator. I dropped the damn 10mm socket head down into the bumper too. Eventually I gave up and desided I was gonna rip the fucking thing out by just pulling till it broke. I guess I didnt need to unscrew anything cuz it popped right off. Now that I finally had it loose, I couldnt fit it out the hole for the headlight because it was too weird shaped. Then I couldnt get the bumper lose inside the wheel well (I didnt take the wheel off) to get the bumper loose. I hate those stupid GM plastic screwy things that are meant to go one way. I couldnt get the fucker out. Eventually I finally got the stupid thing out and put everything back together. It took me like 2 hours... in 95 degree weather.

well, while putting my nokya lights in I got a wild hair and decided to pull mine out too. Didnt feel like pulling the wheel off so attempted to pull the damn thing through the headlight. What a mistake, wrestled with that thing for almost and hour before deciding i'll pull out the hand saw. That made things real easy once the thing was in 2 pieces!

not to sound NOOB but exactly what does removing the resonator do and how does it effect my car? is it primarily just for sound reasons?
done: CRAB CAB woot woot!, aftermarket black taillights, chrome upper recessed grilles, dual rear valance and gt-r exhaust system, duplicolor red painted calipers with R1 concept e-line drilled and slotted rotors and posi-quiet ceramic brake pads all around
                  to do (soon): window tint
to do, maybe (later): painted headlights, color matched recessed grilles
                  need: g6performance.com decals

It will make it sound a little bit deeper/louder but really it won't do much. Weight savings too I guess.

Re: How to remove the resonator in one piece!

I got my DS stage 3 on friday and installed it tonite. it sounds great and I can really feel a difference in get up and go power. taking the resonator out was fun, i forgot about the wheel well trick. I just took an electric drill and drilled through the bean shaped thing on the side broke it off and the rest came out pretty easy. the resonator I pulled had the rubber things with the gromets and slid over to come out and it looked just like Tru Blu JD's did.
