Thanks for this article Ahuhn. After reading it I bought a leather wheel with both controls from ebay and replace my old plastic wheel that had the cruise controls only. What a difference in feel, not to mention that I now have the radio controls that I have been missing from my old Monte Carlo. It needs to be reprogrammed for the buttons to function properly, but I might leave it alone because I really like having a mute button. My first mod of many to come and this article made it really easy!

Hey Ahuhn,

I know I have the support for the volume controls, however. I got a harness for I believe a 06 g6,(I have a 07 g6) and the wires dont match up. Do you happen to know which order they would be in? I have attached pictures of both the harness and the steering coloumn wires. The other thing is, the way the harness in positioned in the picture is the way it plugs into the connector. Atleast, that is the way I took it out from the 06 G6. Unless I just plug it in without switching any wires on the connectors?

So if you only have the 5 wire set up is this not able to do at all? Or can you buy a new harness set up?

I dont think it is possible to add the volume controls, if you have only 5 wires in that connector.

Update..installed the steering wheel control on the g6. It guess the color of the wires don't need to be modified. Just plug n play.. and it worked. But like everyone else.. buttons aren't synced properly. But as long as volume and changing tracks works.

Question for those that have the volume controls that work correctly. What are the function of each button?

I know + and - are volume. What is the up and down arrow button for and the button with 1-6?

up and down are your radio seek controls and 1-6 are your preprogramed radio stations on the 1-6 buttons.

With the multi-cd changer, 1-6 is to change CD's, and the up/down arrors are to change track/seek

Could someone tell me the harness part #? I ordered everything from partsdirect but they sent the harness for the cruise control. I don't believe I had the correct harness part #.

I added the stereo controls to my steering wheel about a year ago. The wiring harness that is needed to do this mod is 15815063.

I don't know why I haven't posted these part numbers before but since there isn't much interest in them anymore I'll post them anyways. LOL!
