  • Emergency Brake Question

First off I'm working on a 2006 GTP Sedan with 39xxx miles.
My girlfriend told me a few of weaks ago that rear brakes are making grinding noise. I finally get around to checking them, and as expected the pads are worn down to nothing, at least the inside pads are. I try to compress the caliper and it won't budge, which is also no surprise. So I get new pads and rotors (EBC slotted and dimpled and Red stuff pads, I'll make sure to post pics and opinions cause I saw other threads of interest) and new calipers.

I tried mounting the calipers earlier tonight and I can barely turn the disc when there is no brake fluid in the caliper.

So my real question is this, would the emergency brake be giving me some trouble? I did connect the brake cable before mounting the caliper, should I have not done that? Do I need to adjust the e-brake someway? Because I can easily put the passenger side caliper on and off becasue I haven't attached the e-brake line to it yet. Anyone have problems with this?

    Thanks.

I'm not sure the answer to your question, but you want to see if the slid pins are lubed. There are some brakes wearing unevenly because the caliper doesn't slide on the pins.
Also, you can't compress the rear caliper without a special tool. It actually screws in.

correct you need a special tool to turn the piston in
the cheap one that you can get at sears for less tehn $10 looks like this

on one of the sides teh dimples will fit into the "holes" in the piston and then you just turn it in

Remember if "the" and "and" are spelled right its not a genuine Ahuhn post

Yeah I lubed up the pins so that won't be a culprit next time.

Can you elaborate on the special tool to screw the calipers (no inuendo intended )

Ignore my second post. You beat me to it.

So then I should probably try that before getting after my emergency brake.

Use some nellde nose pliers or tweezers and rotate the piston clockwise
