Who could possibly justify spending $80 on a single set of brake pads for a G6???
Go to Autozone and $80 will get you pads for all four wheels. They just going to wear out anyway.

Who could possibly justify the cost of a G6??? You could go to Paco's discount car lot and get a "perfectly good car" for much less. I mean, it's going to take you to all the same places anyway!

I understand the cost of premium brakes, say on a 911 or maybe a Corvette. If you need race performance, then you need race performance, but a G6 is not a racecar. Not even close.

Brakes and tires are your most important external equipment on a car, why would you risk your life on cheap parts because you wanted to save some money? If you don't see the benefit in installing high quality parts, then you don't see a benefit in protecting yourself. Sorry that sounds harsh, but it's the bottom line.

Go to autozone or wherever and get brakepads and rotors, you might be ok, but someday you WILL rear-end someone or run off a road and somebody could get hurt.

I know since I've installed my new brakes there have been a couple occasions where I knew I would have hit someone before. I have been in a few accidents and I know the benefit of a good set of brakes and tires and what bad ones will lead to.

I don't know how old or experienced you are, but do yourself a favor and go for the best protection you can get. Car accidents are bad all the way around, even a slight fender-bender is a complete hassle and waste of your time and money. And imagine if somebody died as a result? Don't put yourself or others in that situation.

                    Couldn't agree more Rannin.

It's really important to have good brakes and tires.

You know what I don't get. I have heard the G6 brake problem is the result of the pads getting hotspots and melting material onto the rotors which makes the rotors uneven and therefore vibrate. What's weird is, I drive some canyon roads and I pound on the stock brakes pretty hard. Never have I had any brake fade or any loss of stopping power.

                    How can they be overheating?

I went through the same thing, and AutoZone house brand Duralast was a little over 80 for fronts and rears where the Checker Raybestos were about 73 for just the fronts. I've never used the Duralast brand and ended up taking them back because I actually didn't need brakes once I looked at them but I would much rather go with the Raybestos.

buying better pads and rotors are great in all, but isn't bigger better? I mean how large are our rotors now? a larger set to fill in that wheel would be nice...

^very true however there are no big brake kits for our cars.
