  • Lets Talk 3.6L

So i found this, doesn't give to much differences between some earlier and older 3.6L model engines.

Few questions I have for any guru's, anything swappable from the Saturn Outlook that produces a nice 20-25 horsepower gain from the same engine?
Whats making it produce that much more? Tune?, different intake, setup?

Also the LLT, and LFX models, obviously based similar engines, producing much better horsepower and torque numbers, has anyone flirted with the idea to see if any performance parts would fit?

It's most likely just a different tune for the larger vehicles. The LLT and LFX are direct injection. That would be a giant mess for the limited power increase.

Best bet is getting and intake, exhaust from the headers back, and an aggressive tune. Much easier to sort out and you'll be right around those power numbers.

No one makes a intake for these cars anymore , and I have a reso delete, and im thinking a tune. I just bought a new g6 gxp and it has been modified all the way around, except under the hood. Im trying to see if its a members car here.

For intakes, you can get CRABs, a K&N Typhoon, or custom setup.

I believe I would have to do a custom, neither of them make one for the 3.6L anymore that I see

GM offered an optional exhaust line on the Chevrolet Traverse. It was a dual exhaust line instead of a single. I think this option was also available on the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook. It was giving a little extra power over the base one. The stock single exhaust line gives 281HP and 253ft-lb for the Traverse. The dual exhaust line gives 288HP and 270ft-lb again for the Traverse. I don't know if the ECM tune is different though. I have never though of the Traverse/Acadia/Enclave/Outlook's engine, but it's a really good idea. Maybe there is something to do to fit a dual exhauts line and maybe a tune from one of these.

G6 GXP already has dual outlet exhaust.

I found this, pretty interesting, not sure it would give much increase but it would help engine breath better for sure.

The G6 GXP 3.6L has two exhaust oultlet, but from the same silencer. The Chevrolet Traverse uses two silencers, one per outlet. Here's the 2008 G6 GXP exhaust system :

Maybe the Traverse exhaust system is less restrictive because it uses two silencers, I am not sure. I think it might worth the try.

About the throttle body, I seriously don't recommand to buy any JET products. Most of them gaves troubles to the G6 owners who bought them and gave them a try. And it's pretty expensive for a gain that has never been proven.

are exhaust system underneath looks like shit. Probably best to start from manifold back custom.

Personally I would delete both catalytic converters, replace the resonator by a Thrush or Cherry Bomb Glasspack that has something like 29 or 30 inchs long, weld a Y pipe coupler right after the glasspack and finish up with two Flowmaster Super 44 Series with both dual outlets. If you have money you could also add a pair of headers from Milzy Motorsport but they are pretty expensive. If you want to keep catalytic converters, maybe Racingline's metal core high flow converters would be a good option.

yeah no need for the cats lol no emissions here. Im thinking about the headers, I contacted them for more information. Bad thing is no one around me is really reputable with exhaust systems.

I have a torrent GXP 3.6L, awesome engine but years ago I took measurements for people to put the SUVs upper intake manifold onto the GXP G6, it's too tall to close the hood and that's where a lot of the extra HP comes from as the 3.6L SUV engine makes more HP but same torque at 252. I believe the cams are different to for more low end torque in the lower RPM band but don't quote me on that.
