  • Mod Suggestions!

So spring time's coming and i'm looking for some performance oriented mods. Currently got crabs with FPU upgrade, MMI inserts, grounding kit, and i'm looking to get WAMs tune soon, but i'm looking farther out to see what i sould be saving money on. I was considering milzy's ported LZ4 manifold but when i contacted them about performance numbers they didn't really say much and i havent' seen anything other about it. What other performance mods would you guys recommend? Also i have the 4 speed transmission, how feasible would it be to find one of the 6 speeds. Maybe new plug wires and plugs? they are still original to the car.

most of what you have done seems to be more asthetic and suspension based. I"m looking more towards engine/transmission. Was hoping to find something on the milzy LZ4 but nothing so far

well.. ill let you in on a secret.. you drive a G6.. and you don't have the LY7 engine performance for the LZ4 is kinda like finding a straight guy in a gay bar.. sure it happens.. but do you really trust it?

milzy is the only one to have worked on it.. the LZ4 is dead and suffers from a lack of older family members.. my LX9 (3500) at least had the 3400/3100/2800 family and 20 years of parts to help.. still very little out for it.. even then.. modding the motor would have grenaded my tranny.. didnt really want that..

not to down on your parade.. but motor performance isnt gonna really happen

There is not so much you can do after what you have done, except spending high amount of money into specialized modification shops. Maybe an OBX exhaust line, but I heard there are hard to find by these days. I read also that a Northstar engine throttle body can be fit, but with an adaptor plate, a tune and a custom connector. Maybe you can find fuel injectors, but again you need a tune for them to work properly. Even with the 3.6L, you are limitated into the mods you can buy. So I think if you really want performance, you better trade your car for one with more possibilities and better potential.

I forgot to say, I don't think the automatic 6T40 can fit the 3.5L and 3.9L. It is very different from the 4T45 and 4T65. Google both and you will see how they are made. The last option is the manual F40 that should fit to the 3.5L, bacause the G6 was available with the F40 mated to the 3.9L and both 3.5L and 3.9L are in the same family. But again, it has a cost.

how bout we share something more based on facts.. gm uses a standard bolt pattern when mating engines and transmissions.. usually has nothing to do with the motor fitting the transmission.. but all the engine/tranny mount locations fitting each other.. since all these cars have the same sub frames.. it would be rather easy to understand that the mounting locations are standard too.. so if you wanted to put a 6t75 on your 3.5.. i imagine it would fit without issue.. getting it tuned and working and how much harness you need? theres your question

Well, maybe. But the 6T70 has all its gears on the side of the engine, unlike the 4t45E that are on the back. With the 3.9L, I am not sure there is enough room for that. Maybe with the 3.5L as it is a little smaller.

the 4t45e is a much different and much older set up from the 6t70/75.. cant really be compared... the last 6t75 i took apart and rebuilt would have fit in my car.. and your 3.9 isnt that much bigger than a 3.6 and if it was a 2006 it was mated to a 4t65.. the lz4 (3.5) is just a lz9 with a shorter stroke.. but with basically the same heads and valve train..

well your pretty much done fixing the Lz4 engine but me who owns an Lz4 engine also. i am planning to purchase the p&p upper and lower intake manifold from milzy, and get custom headers well i am use the concept of the obx headers they have for the Lx9 maybe i might just have to use extra piping to make it fit you never now lol, and get the ECU Tune also. but i have a question for you moose517 when you got in contacted with milzy what did they say about their product

I know my 3.9L has a 4T65E. But sincee we was talking about Moose's G6, which has a 3.5L, I was talking about his transmission. Concerning the heads/valve train, are you sure there is no more differences while the LZ4 is VVT ?

                          Re: Mod Suggestions!

im not the engineer that did it. but the lz4 and lz9 would share a common block mold.. the lz4 would have a larger crank throw to reduce the stroke or the head plane was cast shorter.. i imagine since the stroke is all of 3/10ths of an inch different.. most of the difference is in the heads and crank..

and if the 4t45 and 4t65 fit in behind that block, the 6t75 or the f40 should have absolutely no problem fitting
