  • New g6 questions for new owner

Hello I have a 2009 pontiac g6 se 3.5l v6. I want to get some engine mods to help performance. Starting with a cai and chip. I have heard wam tunes are the best to go with. So my questions are:

Which wam chip would be my best bet to order?

And finally are there any exhaust systems that can give my g6 a kind of old muscle car sound? Like the soft rumble when idling? I don't like the new exhaust system sounds on cars.

What else would you guys recommend for me to make my g6 a powerful g?

The WAMS is not a chip. You can either order a pre programed ECM from him or send in your original to be tuned. I suggest ordering a new ECM from WAMS and keep your original safe somewhere. You will need to decide on which tune you want by octane gas you want to use. Down side is that he is only open on weekends including the online web page. Mine shipped out today (91oct tune 3.6) so I can't give a hands on account for it's performance but I have yet to see a bad review. DO NOT buy a Jet Chip or other useless ebay crap chip.

Best advice for the exhaust is to simply youtube G6 exhaust clips or search the exhaust clips here. I think you may be looking for the Magnaflow set up if you want a louder low tone but don't expect an old muscle car sound from a V6.

btw Welcome to the site. Lots of great info and people here to cover almost anything G6.

All exhaust except the GM Performance or Magnaflow cat-back kits will be custom, so there's alot of research and listening to do if you want a certain sound. But in my opinion you can try what I did and do a muffler delete and use only the stock resonator. It's really cheap to try it out and see if you enjoy the sound and you havn't lost anything cause you havn't bought anything yet. From asking around, most exhaust shops like the sound of dual flowmasters for rumbly muscle idle (idle only, WOT sounds like crud), and dual Magnaflows for all around driving sound on GM V6's. Again, you just need to do alot of listening.

As far as having a "Powerful G", there isn't too much out there for us. CAI, Tune, Exhaust is about all there is for bolt-ons. Some people have done some custom stuff with varying degrees of success and I'll let you browse around for those. My recomendation would be to get new tires as soon as you can afford them, that's the fastest way to change the whole driving dynamic of the car and it can make it quicker.

Have to do this post for old times sake...

You want a TUNE, not a chip
