I use mobil 1 synthetic for about everything. My GTP and Torrent GXP gets 5w 30 Mobil 1. My work vans get mobil 1 5w-30 for gas GMs, 5w-20 Fords, and 5w-40 turbo diesel oil for the Duramax. Now on my jeep I will use a Valvoline high mileage as its a 94 with 172K miles.
I just use Mobil 1 as I always have an no issues before, I have tryed other oil if its a real great deal on an oil change special at Advanced Auto.
Only diffrence on MPG I have ever came across is the Ford Vans with the 4.6Ls and there 2006s. You run normal oil they average 15.5 MPG. Not bad for E250s. If you run synthetic (any brand) there average is 16 MPG. My Chevy Express van a 4.8L V8 2500 or my 3500 6.6L Duramax regular or synthetic theres no MPG diffrence. Same with my GTP or the GXP.

Synthetic oil will give you around 1% improvement in gas mileage so it's barely noticeable in real world driving.
The main advantage with synthetic is with its stability, rather than its lubricating properties.

I have used just regular conventional oil 0-60k miles. Just recently I switched to Royal Purple Full-Synthetic. I am not certain I notice a difference but I am fairly certain it is protecting my engine parts better and an oil additive that I use protects against wear at start-up. Royal Purple was I sale but I plan on trying Mobil 1 full-synthetic next time.
Generally I used Valvoline High Mile, but since I have free oil changes on the 6 I don't know what they are putting in it. I think I am going to start doing it myself. Don't know if I will go synthetic or conventional. I guess it depends on what the deal of the week is at Advance Auto.

I think next oil change I'm going to go full Synthetic, Mobile 1 to be exact. I think it's a good time to make the switch to a better performing oil. I've been doing research and found a lot of advancements have been made with synthetic in the last decade or so. Specifically better cooling and lubrication, high film strength (as advertised with royal purple) and much better seal properties to prevent leaks for longer.
On a side note I once went from conventional oil to royal purple on my 93 Cutlass. I felt a difference instantly! Engine felt smoother, way more peppier and had the get up and go, you could feel it in that old lazy motor. BUT being an old 6 cylinder with some miles, it did find all the little leaks in the valve covers. Oh well not my problem anymore
