  • Re: G6 3.6 ltr.

Alright so ever since being stuck in a lot of stop and go traffic this past weekend at a car cruise, my car is now staying around 210*F as apposed to staying around 195*F. What are everyone elses temps staying at? To me I would not like to see the car at much over 195*. I know that it's a fairly large engine in a tight engine bay but what would you suggest for keeping temps down some? I was looking for a 180* thermostat to allow the coolant to flow earler then get the car tuned to turn the fans on at 200*F

I did some research a while back about thermostats. No one makes one and no one is willing to unless you buy like 10,000. I thought the V6 Camaro would change that, but no dice yet. Around 200 degrees is normal anyway though.

Well, I read somewhere, don't know where, but people with the 3.6l are getting somewhat crappy mpg's on highway. I just drove home and back on leave, something like 1,400 miles one way. I got my average up to 30.9 on the way home and on the way back to cali, there was some horrible headwinds and some up hill challenges so my average went down to 27.1. But I'm pretty happy with her.
Anyone else ever get anything like that out of their 3.6?

Yep, I can usually get between 28 - 30 mpg even here in kentucky with the hills and stuff. Most I got was 30.8 and that was on flat highway running about 68 mph.

i got 32.8mph avg from MI to MT with a pretty good headwind, once i got to MT and in the higher elevation and in the mountains, it droped to about 28.0mpg avg..........on the way back ther was very little wind at all and from my pass side and i got 34.7mpg avg easy once i got out of the state of MT and onto flatter land and all this at 75mph

when im back home in MI i can avg 35-36mpg all day long on the Hwy at 70-75mph

In the PacNW on my usual Portland/Seattle runs, I can average about 29 going about 70+ and a shade over 30 if I go 60-65 with the moderate hills of the I-5 corridor and the relatively low elevations. This is with a moderate load of emergency supplies and lugging my fat ass around.

I got about 31 average going to and from Yellowstone a couple years back, this included my fiancee, who'd not that big at all.

My highway mileage is pretty good especially since I rarely use the A/C and make sure my tires are properly inflated.

My mileage city-wise, though, sucks. I tend to average 15 that way. However, given that the mileage she advertised was about 17/27 and I'm getting 15/29, it seems to average out.

As for the temp issues--only once did I ever see it jump above 195. and once it hit about 210 the fan kicked on and it went down. For the most part my temp has been really steady at 195.

My temp, in the desert with ambient of around 100-120, my car runs at 215-220 and the cooling system does a great job at keeping it there.

will keep u posted......... might try this in a few weeks when i come back from utah...........i think i figured out how to possibly make it run a bit cooler right now.........i sucked out my coolant resevoir and added a bottle of water wetter and filled it up with water, to see if it makes any difference with my temps at the track........ i was reading on the bottle and it seems like the less "coolant" the cooler it will run, it claims just pure water will run about 220 (which is what mine runs in stop and go), but i when i flushed out my cooling system the day i got it to get rid of the dexcool, i just refilled it with concentrated coolant so its good to like -67 and up to 300some boiling point i think it says on the bottle that water and the bottle will run about 202 for dyno temps is what they list so pretty much worst case scenario............so when i do the Tstat i am gonna flush it again and just use 100% water, and a bottle of waterwetter and of course just add some coolant before i put her in storage this winter...........

There was a issue with HP tuners yesterday when they were trying to tune. So they are going to contact them to find out what was going on.
