No they dont, if you do some research you'll see the max ratings are the same Tq numbers as the highest power engine that was ever mated to that transmission.
thats all good and everything. but hasnt GM matted trans that could barely handle the engine its attached to before? like the 45e auto trans with the 3.5l. Given the F40's track record of unreliablility how can you recomend putting even more power through it? I dont make a point to research that particular transmission since i dont have it but i recall you and many others having a lot of problems with it.
Syncro and clutch issues yes, but no one has outright broken one. Hell no one has put more than 250WHP through one.

workin on it.... good chance i'll be getting hptuners ordered next friday... only a couple hundred more to go after that...

i think the tranny would hold up great if we had a singlemass flywheel and stronger clutch disk

as it will be in my application once I bolt it to the 3800
too bad it's going to take me all of 6 months to save up for it... I hope to complete it by summer 2009 but who knows how things will go. Knowing me it'll be 2010 by the time I have a 6 speed Fiero lol

let me know how the clutch/flywheel thing works out... i talked to spec and briefly with a couple other clutch manufacturers and they all said they couldnt make anything for me, even special order =\

Re: F40 6 speed with high torque engines

honestly I have no idea how the 3900 is balanced... maybe that's why they said they won't make you anything? I can't say. But specific to the Fiero, v8archie makes a kit to install the F40 to the 3800, the stock 2.8L, and small block chevy. Expensive but well worth it to me, rather than trying to 'reinvent the wheel' all over again

come to think of it, here is someone who is using the F40 with a 305hp Northstar V8. Page 2 shows the flywheel adapter he used. I have no idea if it will be of any help to you, but maybe worth reading through

Just landed an 06 F40 for $299+99shipping on ebay. Couldn't pass up the deal for a brand new tranny... that's $100 less (even including shipping) than I paid for a 20+ year old junk yard muncie 4 speed from a v6 fiero.

Re: F40 6 speed with high torque engines

Haha it'll sit in my garage for a year while I save up for all the other parts. But over time I'm sure these will become harder to find brand new and this cheap. Hell for a tranny that sold for ~$1850 from GM, I feel I got a good deal. $75 cheaper than any other listing on there

edit: So I've made my first step toward building a 3800SC powered 6 speed Fiero

Re: F40 6 speed with high torque engines

Alright well... been a while, but I thought I'd stop back to update everyone here.

I've started on the F40 swap with an L32 3800 into the Fiero. I'm waiting on custom axles and the rest of the swap parts still... I had really hoped they'd be in this weekend, but just got news they won't be here til Monday at the earliest.

I decided while the engine is out of the car, now is the best time to do a cam. So it's getting XP cam, rollmaster double roller timing chain, and 105# valve springs I'm hoping for over 300hp at the wheels after I get it tuned.... we shall see.

All I've got is a cell phone, which randomly resizes pics as it sees fit. IDK...

The reason I've been forced to good bye to the 4 speed:
