Infinity Amplifier questions (opinions/suggestions welcome)

What do you guys know about Infinity amps? I am probably gonna get an Infinity Kappa Perfect 12 for my sixer. I was wondering what you know about the amps so that I can match them with what they were designed from.

Also, they make two different Kappa Perfects. One is 2 ohm and one is 4 ohm. They are both 400 RMS. Would it be better to run 2 ohm at 657 watts or to run 4 ohm at 456 watts? Would the extra power make a difference? Does having more ohms make a difference?

I havent really messed with infinity amps but ohms law is universal. The lower ohms means less resistance. With less resistance you tend to get hotter. The amp and the subs. Now matching your amp to the subs is based on the # of voice coils and the vc impedance. So if you have a dual four ohm sub then you want an amp that will put out the subs recommended rms at 2 ohms. If the subs are dual 2 then you can run the subs in series to raise the ohm load to 4 ohms. Get the point?

I've always liked their amps, they are pretty solid and can stand up to a pretty good beating. If you are going to run a perfect though, feed it at least 600 watts otherwise you won't be happy with it and neither will it with that amount of power. You want more power per resistance, so ignore the ohms and just match the power rating as close as you can but in this case feed them as much as you can. They don't really start to shine until you hit 750.

well, all the numbers I was giving are RMS. The peak power on the amp I am looking at is either 1200 or 1600.

Either way you want to feed it at least the 600 watts, depending on your upgrade path if you want to add another down the line then I would get a big amp to be safe. Either way you'll have the adequate power for one, and if you want to move to two then you can. Even though one Perfect properly powered is pretty insane, you still want to have that option.

Check out JBL and MTX they make very good sub amps, and put out quite a bit more power than what they rate them for.

Well, I am just gonna stay with one. I was gonna get two W3v3's in a custom plexiglass box for my car from my sisters fiance, but I cant fit my golfclubs into the trunk without putting them in sideways first. Also, I need the fold down seat as there is no way in hell I am putting my snowboard in my backseat with leather seats. I have heard great things about the kappa perfects as far as sound quality goes, so I have been thinking about getting one of those and mounting the amp on the smaller fold down seat (we do have 60/40 dont we?)

Yeah you can mount it to the seat, that will work fine. If you are for sure getting one then then I would buy the dvc and pick an amp that will put out about 800-1000 watts at 2 ohms. You don't want to go over that really because the Perfects can't handle close to their max power very well but you feed them 800+ watts and they sound amazing as hell. Make sure you put them in a nice sealed box as well... they sound sloppy in a ported.

MTX TE801, TC8001... not sure what your price range is though. We can help you narrow it down if you let us know.

Why not go with Memphis, they are very good quality. They have subs and amps.

Plus he sounds like he is wanting SQ first, Memphis doesn't know the meaning of that word.

Well I have JL's they sound good, I can tell you that.

Yeah JL sounds good, the W3 sounds pretty good and the W6 sounds amazing. But it's a lot more money than the Perfect, and the W6 will then only have the edge in SPL.
