  • Hammerhead Question

Here's the thing. I have the GXP coupe with the hammerhead spoiler that came on it. We all know that the spoiler is quite large, but I like it. I noticed that the hammerhead spoiler that you can buy for the normal coupe doesn't stick up in the air as much as the GXP one and I was wondering if they are interchangeable. Please verify that they are different sizes and if anyone knows let me know if I can switch them. Thanks in advance!

      Re: Hammerhead Question

Coupe owners can buy a hammerhead for their car and it is smaller than the one that comes on the GXP. The only good picture I can find right now is one of psuracegirl24's coupe.

        Re: Hammerhead Question

The gm accessories spoiler for the coupe is 2 inches shorter than the gxp spoiler.

The part # for the gxp spoiler is a 25876647 and the package dimensions are 63.3X24.3X7.3 and weighs 9.04 lbs
The gm accessoires part # is a 19172827 and the dimensions are 41.8X11.3X5.3 and weighs 2.2 lbs

They would be interchangeable, but with the gm accessories spoiler, they don't have the 3rd brake light in them so you would have to relocate yours to where they normally are on coupes.

Thank you tons! There is already a third brake light on the GXP in the back window so I would just not use the spoiler one. I don't know why the GXP needs so many brake lights.

                Re: Hammerhead Question

There's a GXP Coupe and GXP Sedan. The sedan has a smaller hammerhead spoiler than the coupe. The sedan one does NOT have a third brake light built into it, since it's already built into the trunk. The coupe one DOES have a third brake built into it because it covers the one in the rear window since it's so big.

                Sedan:

If you go thru with this swap and go with the smaller spoiler...can I have first crack at your old huge hammerhead? That is if no one else has already.

You are the first person to ask about it, so I'll keep you in mind if I decide to switch.

Awesome...and since you're a bit of a Newb...we'll do all that extra special stuff to make sure no one gets screwed. Although I really don't think this will be a problem...IF we happen to go thru with this deal.

No pressure on making the swap...not like I'm gonna send subliminal messages....CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE...LMAO...

But yeah...definitely keep me in mind.

And a question for someone else who may know...the '08 Hammerhead for the GXP Coupe will fit on the '06 GT Coupe...correct?

                          Re: Hammerhead Question

I think the akilter-rear view of the sedan and the following pic I'm posting show "why" on the two different spoiler:

Styling cues. The trunk of the coupe slopes a lot more than the sedan. It looks like GM wantes to "keep" the horizontal line formed by the base of the windows and extend it through the spoiler, hence why it's so big. If we had a side fiew of a GXP sedan, likley it could be a lot smaller and still keep any appropriate lines.

However, looking at the basic design of the hammerheads, I'm wondering if at higer speeds they're functional or not (looking at them, probably, but not by much), and if going from the coupe spoiler to the sedan spoiler, since the angle of attack will change to cause lift, if it won't make the back end a bit more squirrley at high speeds.

Granted, this would likley not happen even at highway speeds...but i digress. It would be intresting to see side-shots of the GXP sedan with the hammerhead and a sideshot of the GXP coup with the sedan hammerhead. I'd like to se how the lines flow and the angle of the spoiler.

no, it won't do anything for our FWD cars.

                              Re: Hammerhead Question

No, adding a spoiler for downforce on a FWD car won't unless the back end is *really* light. However, given the angle that a sedan spoiler would sit on a coupe, i'd be curious as to what, if any, lift is generated at higher speeds.

The spoiler itself in it's mounting looks like it would create downforce for each car it would come stock on--I know that the effect is pretty much wasted on a FWD car like ours.
