I got to drive a 2008 Solstice GXP after work yesterday. It's nice to have a parent working at a dealer
Anyway, it was a really nice car. The interior was spacious for a roadster and I didn't feel cramped at all, even with me being nearly 6'2. I loved the seating position. It was low slung and felt like a go-kart. The only complaint was the seat was a bit more upright than I am used to, but its possible that could be changed with a little tinkering with the controls. The interior wasn't exactly a Mercedes, but it was nice for its purpose: a quick, lightweight roadster. The seats were nice with decent leather. The interior looked decent, but it was mostly plastic. Once again, the car isn't intended to be a luxury car, but a sports roadster.
The car drove really well. It had a great feeling road presence. No torque steer at all, unlike our G6s. After all, it is RWD!!! The turbo 2.0L engine made nice power for the size of the car, which is about 2900lbs. It puts out 260 hp/tq with little turbo lag. The only lag was in lower RPMs, but I drove a 5 speed auto instead of a stick. The car had great power (faster than our GTPs) and it handled almost like a go-kart. The car kept pulling, even at higher speeds. I don't know how fast I got it, but I did play with it on a straight. The car had little body roll around corners and was amazingly quiet for a convertible. The direct injection engine was a little noisy, but thats all part of the sports car experience. I loved the wooshing sound of the turbo under acceleration.
Overall, I loved the car and so did my wife. When I first showed up in the car, she was like "You had to go drive a car." After I took for a quick ride (and even let her drive around the neighborhood) she came out grinning from ear to ear and asked how much it was
If I could get a good deal on a leftover 08 later in the summer, I'd jump on it.
