  • 2008 honda accord and 2008 chevy malibu

I was lookin around C/D website and found this review of the 2008 honda accord ex 4cyl with the 5 spd stick.

    VEHICLE TYPE: front-engine, front-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 4-door sedan

PRICE AS TESTED: $23,695 (base price: $23,695)

ENGINE TYPE: DOHC 16-valve inline-4, aluminum block and head, port fuel injection
    Displacement: 144 cu in, 2354cc
Power (SAE net): 190 bhp @ 7000 rpm
    Torque (SAE net): 162 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

    TRANSMISSION: 5-speed manual

    DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 110.2 in Length: 194.1 in Width: 72.7 in Height: 58.1 in
    Curb weight: 3263 lb

    C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 7.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 20.8 sec
Zero to 120 mph: 35.3 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 8.4 sec
    Standing ¼-mile: 16.1 sec @ 88 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 130 mph
    Braking, 70–0 mph: 185 ft
    Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.81 g

    FUEL ECONOMY:
    EPA city/highway driving: 22/31 mpg

Umm C/D tested a 2007 Accord with the 166hp 4cyl and 5spd which did 0-60 in 7.5 secs. Also how come the almighty fuel efficent honda 4cyl only gets 22/31mpg, my 06 g6 gets 22 city and 31 hwy and thats with a v6! So let me get this straight, honda comes out with a brand new, more powerful accord 4cyl that is slower than the previous model and gets the same mileage as my "old-tech" pushrod v6. Wow, I'm so impressed.

Oh, BTW, I posted about the 4cyl accord because that tends to be the most popular model and the one that most ricers choose to rice up.

I would guess that because the new Accord is heavier, performance and fuel economy suffers.
0-60 in under 8 seconds is not at all slow for a 2.4L 4-cylinder. Our 2005-06 G6 3.5L V6 does it in about the same time. It's faster than our Ecotecs and fast enough for the majority of the general public.

        2008 EPA numbers.

But yeah, at least it isn't as bad as the Civic Si's engine. Peak horsepower at what, 9000RPM?

I dunno cause they really haven't done a comparison test against other cars with it yet. C/D seems to really like the new malibu and they have high hopes for the G8, their actually kinda excited about that. The only faults that the new malibu might have is cheaper plastic on the dash and low power, I mean come on. 164 hp 4cycl and a 4spd auto? everybody else is doing at least a 5spd auto with their 4cycl.

I cant wait to find an 08 honda accord owner who is bragging about his 190hp 4cyl so I can remind him that its slower than the previous 166hp 4cycl accord!

I think the only mistake Chevy is making with the Malibu is holding up the 4-cylinder/6-speed-auto powertrain. The 6-speed should be standard all around if they want to create a true hit in the mid-sized volume market. That 4-speed shouldn't even exist anymore.

I hope they don't restrict options on the 4-cylinder models. They did that on the G6 and I feel it was stupid. A large amount of consumers want their slow fuel-sippers, but also want their leather and navigation and whatnot. That's something Honda seems to have learned but GM and Toyota haven't figured out. I've been in base Camry's and Accords and the Accord is always much more loaded than the Camry. GM should go the Honda route to be truely successful.

If GM gets the 4-cyl/6A Malibu's out there before it is too late, I think sales are gonna be awesome.

yeah I agree, C/D just tested the 4cyl 4spd auto malibu and it did 0-60 in 9.3secs ! That is slower than a lot of SUVs! I mean come on, the torrent/equinox gets a 5spd auto with the 3.4 and 6spd auto with the 3.6.
I gotta say I really dig the new malibu, its one good looking car.

9.3s, eeeewwww. Yea, Chevy definitely needs to ditch the 4-speed auto for a real transmission. The 6-speed would let them throw a few acceleration gears up front and still get more fuel economy overall.

say what you want about the good ole 4t65e, but it's a hell of a transmission. when you can pair the same trans up to a four banger all the way up to a 400hp v8 with minor internal differences, that says something.

with that said, that mileage sucks. they should definitely use the 6A with the 4 cyl models.

what I find funny is how my 06 v6 got 22/30 mpg in stock form which is the same as the 4cyl malibu and only a little bit less than the accord.
