If my car starts running out of power while driving at night because of the lights being on what would the problem be? If I turn the lights off it goes back to enough power. I had my whole stereo system installed but then I took it out cause I thought it was causing the problem.

could be the battery or the alt then again u might have something wrong in your wireing harness go to an advance auto parts or auto zone and ask them for a free battery tester to see if u have a bad battery...Originally posted by Froboy7391

Can't test for proper alternator function with a voltmeter...advance auto parts will do a free alternator check.2009 PONTIAC G8

well you can do a rough test. see what battery voltage is with the key on engine off then start it and see if it went up. should be like 12v and 14 volts respectivly. either way thats not a diffinitive test id get it checked out somewhere

14v is a good indicator that the alternator is putting out the right amount of juice, but there could still be bad diodes, wiring gone bad, something burnt out, bad brushes, etc. etc.2008 Pontiac G6 GT - Techno Gray Metallic, 3.5L
