  • Headlight Removal Help

I tried taking out my headlights earlier today..i followed everything exactly, but i still couldnt manage to get them out...is there an easier way to do this? i searched on the forum but i tried everything ive read and they still wont budge. Would it be easier to just remove the whole bumper?

    Thanks in advance

you have to loosen the bumper and do some pulling but it will eventually work

take the bumper plugs out, the small plastic pressure screws, use a flathead screwdriver, put it under it in and turn it, should pop right out giving the bumper some more room to move.

it takes a good hard tug. but put one hand on bottom corner and pull from there and it should pop easier. that is where the ball joint is

We need a how to if we don't already have one.
If the bottom of the headlight is clear of the bumper cover, pull it straight out. There is resistance for sure, but once that ball breaks loose of the socket, it'll come out.
Make sure to brace yourself, you don't want to end up on the ground.

I tried this the first time and gave up cause I thought I would break the damn thing. The second time I tried pulling as hard as I could and then it came off. You'll hear a cracking sound not to worry just the ball joint. BTW place a rag cloth under the headlight while pulling so it does not scratch the bumper. Hope this helps.

                    Re: Headlight Removal Help

Yea, it look me a good 30 mins to get mine out. I had to remove the bumper plugs, then bend the bumper around the right side of the headlight, then push the bumper at the bottom of hte headlight. I tried pulling stright out, but couldn't get a good hand hold, so I pivited it from right to left, so that the ball joint would push itself out.

Took mine out today, took > 1 hour to get them out. Man are they tough. Also got my resonator out while headlights out. That took close to 2 hours. But it should be easier now to change out when I get the modded lights from cbrenn71 soon.

ahuhn, what is involved with the lucerne?

Anytime I do any headlight work now, I remove the entire front fascia. Yes, I'm serious. Find that easier, and faster, than trying to yank them out around the fascia. Besides, my fascia is cracking in the corners by the grilles from being pulled on too many times for headlight stuff, so I'm trying to salvage whatever I can to prevent any major damage.
