  • Newbie!!! I4 to V6 swap?

Hi all. I'm new here! I have a 2010 G6 with an I4 flex fuel. Thinking about swapping or building a V6 from an saltier model (they all seem to have the same body style I could be wrong). Any suggestions or advice/experience? Sites? Recommendations. Help!

Thanks everyone! I'm leaning towards rebuilding my 2.4 and adding a supercharger and new intake/exhaust.

That's like a little under half of a used V6 (whole car)

but seriously its like a 1/3 or 1/4. IMO not worth dealing with that hassel.

well there you go.. thats great for you.. but you need to know where to look.. you can buy an entire car for the $3-4k range.. so if you pay $9-12k like you suggest for JUST a motor.. your plain stupid..

anyone want to buy a used 3.5L?? I'll cut you a great deal!

There are other platforms I'd rather invest the money and time into. But motor swaps are not hard, especially when the motor came in that platform to begin with.

You can pickup a Junkyard drivetrain for probably about $1500, try to pick your year G6. You'll need the wiring harness too, as well as a Service Manual with the wiring diagrams, not hanes or chilton.

In reality for the performance gain its just not worth it.

Now however, if you were to find a way to drop the 5th gen camaro's 312hp V6 into the G6 that would be consideriably worth it. Especially if you had bolt-ons to go with it. Then you'd be talking about a 330-350hp engine with no weight gain.

The G6 it's a little more complicated. You'd need new ECM and TCM, then you would need to get that ECM and TCM to talk and work with the car's BCM. Also the 2009.5 and 2010 G6's are a completely different beat electronic wise than 2005-2009 G6's. You would need a 3.6L from a 2010 or 2009.5 GXP, if you can find them since there were little produced, most GXP's that are shown as 2009 are not 2009.5's.

Also the 3.6L from the Camaro would not fit for sure. The 3.6L in the G6, The LY7, was modified from all other LY7 engines. If you note, it only makes 251/252hp. The LY7 released at the same time in the CTS, Equinox, and Torrent were all ~270hp. The intake manifold and a few other parts were modified for the G6 so that it would fit under the G6's hood. There simply isn't enough room with the transmission sitting under the engine in a FWD / horizontally mounted engine. CTS was RWD so the tranny could sit back further and the engine can be lower in the engine bay and make hood clearance. In the Traverse / Torrent, it's a SUV so they got tons of space under the hood to fit it since its so high up. This the LP1 from the new Camaro, which is a LY7 with Direct Injection and some other goodies making 312hp, is simular in design to the regular LY7 engine. Most likely would not fit without signifigant modification, and I doubt the G6 LY7 intake manifold would bolt up. Also if you run a 2011+ LP1 engine, the exhaust manifold and headers are one piece. So you'd have to figure that out as well. The 2009-2010's are seperate though, but thats how they got the bump from 303hp in 2009-2010 to 312hp along with tuning changes for 2011+ model years.
