    Steering wheel swap with pics

    I swapped out my wheel because the vinyl one was deteriorating.
    I bought the leather wrapped 4 spoke with radio controls. After reading about others doing similar projects. I found that I had all the wires needed for the radio buttons. After I was done I was pleased to find out that all the buttons work and perform the proper functions.
    All in all it was very easy. Be sure to disarm the airbag.

    Here's the how to on that. It's not for the G6 but will work on any GM car I would think.


    You'll find that the plugs on the back of the air bag have a little retainer clip that pulls straight up. Then the connector pulls straight out as well.

    Where did you pick up that steering wheel? Nice job on the swap!

        I got mine on E-bay, I won the bid at $0.99. Airbags are no joke, approach with cation. knowledge is key. There is a wealth of information on this site alone. It's actually pretty simple.

        Thanks for the compliments. I'm curious to know what the torque value is for the steering wheel nut. if any one knows, please share. Mine is currently torqued to German spec, Goodntight. LOL!

          why would you switch steering wheels, honestly I think it looks horrible. Just my opinion.

              Thanks for your input, My justification is pretty simple. I don't have the 3 spoke GT wheel that you have.

              This is my original wheel...



              You can see that the vinyl coating is pretty much shot and is wearing into to the foam that will eventually wear to the steal frame.





              In addition to the wear. The replacement contained radio controls, where as the original only had cruise controls.





              The replacement radio controls light up and match the dash lights.
              The original only had a bright yellow LED that came on when the Cruise control button was pushed in.




              So for what I paid $0.99 + $20.00 Shipping, it seemed logical. I would have like to have switched to the three spoke wheel that you have but I would have needed a new air bag and they rub $300.00 to $500.00
              I think it makes it feel like a new car.
              Plus it makes her happy...

                You can get a 3spoke w radio and cruise controls... My car has that.
                MODS:20% tint, Lumens 6000K HIDs low and fogs, Lumens white LED plate light and reverse lights, Spyder LED/CCFL Halo/Projector headlights, white/white "Switchback" LED rear tail/brake/signals, shorty antenna, debadged hatch and front doors, blacked out grill

                  That is true. but I would have to buy an air bag to go to the 3 spoke wheel. The swap that I did use the same bag.

                    Ah, ok I see your logic here now. Good to know you weren't switching from a 3 to 4... which was my reasoning for the comment above. Lol.
