Ok here you go

All you will need is a flat head screwdriver for prying (very little effort is need, just enough to pop it loose)
in the 4 marks shown in the pic belowfor the 4 tabs that hold the vanity mirror in place


As you see in this pic 2 of 4 tabs (these are the 2 bottom ones. there is 2 more on top


In this pic you will see the 2 metal springs that hold the mirror shut or open (arrows are pointing at)


This is an up close look at the metal spring. Where the 2 lines are located is where the plastic might
be broken at which is causing the mirror flap to dangle.



If the plastic around the spring is broken. The metal springs will most likely not me there and somewhere inside the visor.
you can either try super gluing the plastic back together or you will need to order a new vanity mirror. Best be is to find a low end vanity mirror (no vanity light). then you can pop out the plastic tabs (where the light will go) and replace the mirror. If need be I can also do a How-To on that part as well. Hope this helps you out. Any questions feel free to ask.

So I just popped the mirror off and took a look..

Looks like the plastic parts are still in tact.. but Im missing BOTH black springs!?@

Im guessing they may have fallen behind the vanity mirror when they popped out? Cant see them anywhere.

This is what my Driver Side Visor Does! so I just don't pull down so it's pointing forward, actually keep it pointing toward me. I guess I could just double sided tape it shut, I mean really, I'm not vein enough to need the mirror anyway, so, I'll just tape it shut!

I know you recommended getting a new one without the lamps on it.. but if I wanted to replace the existing one (with lamps) would it be easy to do?? I see where the electrical wires are soldered to the circuitboard so I wouldnt be able to do anything there.. but Im wondering if theres a hookup on the other end of the wires.. like maybe where it connects into the roof or something?? I would like having the lights again.. or would running wires (if even possible) be too much of a hassle in that tight space?

Anyway.. otherwise, anybody know the part number to the driver vanity WITH lights?? (I know theres a post already for one without it).

And by the way, where do you guys find all these part numbers to begin with?!

you can keep your lights, the circuit board pops off the back and you can reinstall on the new visor. its a real simple swap. I will go get some pics with the board of the back of the mirror for you and also the clear lens popped out. they are easy fixes

Nice write up snowman, you should make ur own thread with the how to so people dont have to dig through the thread for it.

I also have the same problem with my passenger visor, it's just completely floppy and no one's ever used it. If someone knew the part number, i would also like it. My car doesnt even come with the vanity light's, it's just plastic inserts. Would the wiring still be behind the visor if i wanted to get the one with lights?

This how to was very helpful cause ever since i bought the car both driver and passenger side won't stay shut. So now i have a mini project on my next day off. I am curious if i could add lights to my sun visor since there is none there. If you can answer that too will be super helpful, thanks again for a very helpful how to.

you could probably just buy the vanity mirrors with the lights from gmpd and then supply power. soldering above my head was a bit awkward though
