Dont take it so personally Dan, you were made an example of what we dont like seeing on this forum. Learn from it, as others will.

OK. I purchased the fabled Spyder projector headlights for the G6 and installed them about two weeks ago, then bought some 6000K hids to go in them.

Needless to say, I was displeased with the cut off line/beam patter produced by these headlights, and had just settled for it when I tried to aim the headlights using the bad beam pattern one night....but later that night, I did something revolutionary....not really.

But seriously, I though that maybe the optics of the projector hadn't been though out well, and that this could possibly be remedied by adjusting the position of the H1 HID bulb.....namely, by pulling it farther back.

So that's what I did and the results are in the pictures below.

The beam pattern is still far from factory quality, but I think it is much improved over what it was before..

If anyone still cares and wants to know how i did this (meaning with what materials), let me know and I will post pics/information about how/what.

Some things you should notice: There is a "dark" spot in the middle of each beam at the center of the cut off line, though it hasn't been a problem, the two dark spots to meet up with one another farther out, so the middle of the beam when driving is dimmer than the rest of it...but like i said, I haven't hit any old ladies that might have been crossing the street at midnight....I can also post on the road pics if anyone wants me to.

And I suppose I could solve the dim spot problem by adjusting them closer or farther apart from each other...we'll see.

sorry for the blurriness, but I just ran and took these a few minutes ago....at 12:50am.
            Is that it?

I'd like to know what ya did, this thread might be my own, but I welcome any and all pics and install info on whatever anyone did, and yours especially, as you say you have mounted the HIDs differently.

Seriously? Brokencyde plays when I want to look at the first page? Someone make a rule about not being allowed to have auto-starting music in threads please.

Oh and what you've done makes the cut off line a bit better, but like you said they're still not great. Keep tweaking them

                  • Re: New Projector Head-lights- UNDER CONSTRUCTION

OK. Like I said before, all I have done is mount the hid bulbs so that they sit a little farther towards the back of the housing.

I did this using the items pictured below. I used five of them to take up space on each headlight. I don't remember what they are called, but I bought them on the hardware isle at Home Depot...surely you can find them at a competitor, but where ever you check, go to the hardware isle...they keep these with the specialty washers and such. They are pretty thin and made of steel I believe (so no melting)

So I took five of these and stacked them.

Then I placed them into the hole where the bulb originally sat and then I put the bulb in on top of them.

I also had to "de-bend" so to speak the metal clamp that holds the H1 bulb in (you can see that the clamp looks a different shape in the above pictures - flatter in general and with an extra bend near the end of the clamp). More specifically, you will find that trying to close the clamp with a the hid bulb in there sitting as far out is it does with the spacers in there is possible, but very difficult and it just feels WAY too tight, so i made to different bends in each clamp.

                    1. the part of the clamp that actually makes contact with the bulb base needs to be unbent part of the way (but not made straight)

                    2. The part of the clamp that actually hitches onto the hook at the edge of the bulb housing will need to be bent slightly inward so that the clamp can reach around the protrusion from the HID bulb....if you don't do this part, you will see what i mean when you try to close the clamp.....it's simply too difficult to force the clamp to bend around the bulb into the hook on the other side without pre-bending it so that it almost naturally loops around to the hook.

(by the way, I used a pair of needle-nose pliers to do the clamp bending)

If the clamp modification descriptions are not clear, let me know. Hopefully the pictures will help.

Also, if you are using a halogen bulb, you probably won't need to make the second bend i mentioned, but I didn't make this change until I had the HIDs in.....by the way, I found out why there are dark spots and also found somewhat of a remedy to it.

If you put HIDs in here, (if they are H1) the bulb is too long and so it protrudes slightly over the blocking plate and thus blocks some of the light being reflected over the blocking plate. So when I was driving the two dark spots converged on one another and made a dark spot in the middle of the beam (it wasn't like pitch black, but it was noticeable and slightly annoying, though my vision on the sides was completely unaffected and quite good).

So I just aimed each headlight farther away from eachother, which still doesn't blind people since there is no longer a tuft of light above the cutoff, and provides slightly more side vision and also greatly diminishes the dim spot. In fact, now I have two spot that are barely dimmer than in other parts of the beam since the beam from one headlight is now shining in the other headlights dim spot (vice versa).

Sorry this is so long. I did put the original halogen bulb into one of my headlights during the day time and just held it farther outside of the housing with my hand and didn't see any dark spots and did see a good cut off line...of course this was during daylight, so perhaps I missed any "tufts" of light that were still above the cut off, but that's I how i came to the realization that the bulb was itself blocking some of the light. If this is NOT why there are dim spots, someone please let me know what is the cause and if you have found a problem to it.

                    Thanks and hope this helps.

Well, I want to thank Dan, Camdogie, and Mike (?) for all their input in this thread.

I just found out I am a member of the workforce again (who ever said unemployment hasn't hit nebraska yet is full of shit ) and I will be picking up a set of the chrome ones for my Midnight Blue Metallic. I think the quality is not BMW or Acura grade, but it is better looking than stock, and I personally like the LED/halo thing. of course I will have chrome dome bulbs in the turnsignal light to clean that up a bit.

Dan, I know you said you wanted to know what the black ones would look like on MBM, I will get some pics up, and you might be able to have ghosty shoop them black. It might be about a month though before I get some bank together to get the housings and HIDs.

                          Thanks again everyone,
