Re: 3.9L LZ9 internal upgrades & modification query.
yah we actually have a good lookin motor, alot of the parts remind me of a small block V8
Mods- VMS ECM/TCM Tune, Custom Magnaflow Cat Back, Full CRAB Intake, Racing Line Motor Mounts and Strut Tower Brace. Tinted Windows & Tails. EBC USR Rotors Front and Rear running YellowStuff Pads

Re: 3.9L LZ9 internal upgrades & modification query.
Well boys and girls, just in case you didn't know...we have a forged crank. And a very nice piece at that. The teacher showed the difference with a guy who's building a 3.8 supercharged. I'm currently looking into cryoing the crank. I'm not going to mess with the stroke. I'm leaning towards having this built for E85. Also possibly drysumping it.
Re: 3.9L LZ9 internal upgrades & modification query.
I just wanted to know who would be interested in going in for forged rods for the 3.9L LZ9? The rod are basically going to be stock spec except for the wrist pin which will be a .927in instead of the OE .945in. The reason for the smaller wrist pin would be to easily accomodate a piston from a SBC.
Re: 3.9L LZ9 internal upgrades & modification query.
Dont know to much about this stuff so i'm not going to act like I do. What is there to gain from what was said above.

Re: 3.9L LZ9 internal upgrades & modification query.
Well, going to the SBC (Small Block Chevy) wrist pin diameter will allow access to pistons from like a LS1. So you don't have to get custom pistons on top of the custom rods you will need since the aftermarket does not currently support this motor.
So, let's say you want to increase the compression ratio slightly. You can look for a flat top piston from a V8 which everyone and their brother makes. Instead of having to make custom pistons since the wrist pin is larger. Our cylinder bore stock is 3.9in. Which if you look at say Summit & Jegs, etc. is the same bore from a LS1 V8.
Re: 3.9L LZ9 internal upgrades & modification query.
I think as long as the compression height & the overall length (rod & piston assy) is the same or shorter, it should be no problem. The other thing that has to be looked into is the side skirts.

Re: 3.9L LZ9 internal upgrades & modification query.
Not really. What was suggested to me is that I weld the crank and increase the stroke on it. Then I should be able to use 5.7in V8 connecting rods. This would probrably be cheaper than buying forged connecting rods. The problem I have with that is that 1. It doesn't help the aftermarket situation which already at nil for the 3.9L. 2. This motor already has a really nice forged crank, which I don't want to mess with. 3. The school I have been going to has helped me with finding out what options I have and how to obtain the numbers I need to ask around.
