Re: The Oil Monitoring system.
This is great info, I was wondering how this sytem worked... my first oil change came at almost 11,000 miles. That seemed like a lot to me but I always like to put trust into the way GM had engineered the system maybe as a test of accuracy I guess.. who knows. I am at 20K now and the system shows I have about 35% if I remember right so about time to change it again.

I do mine when the meter gets down to like 20% or so, or every 5,000mi, whichever comes first. More often if it's close and I need something else done.2015 Chevy SS, Perfect Blue Metallic, Sunroof, No Spare, M6

or you can turn the key to the on position without starting in and push the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds all the way to the floor. sounds funny but that works on all GMsits might just be a family sedan, but girls love this car

Re: The Oil Monitoring system.
Yeah I just use the DIC to reset mine.
Do mine when it gets down to 10-15%, usually every 3 months but with the amount of miles I drive its usually about 6,500Blue 2008 G6 GT Sedan-Sold

Re: The Oil Monitoring system.
I've always used Castrol oil. Right now I run Castrol Syntec blend with a K&N oil filter. Around 40,000 miles or so I plan on going full synthetic; and I change mine religously at 3,000 miles. I always have because I tend to "abuse" my cars when I drive.Project G:

Last summer I change my G6 GT over to Amsoil 0W30 full syn. I run it in my other two vehicles (change the oil once a year). I know I won't drive my G6 as much as my Taurus (highway vehicle) or Durango (tow/work vehicle), but I like to keep the rpms up with the tapshift, and I want to run a GOOD oil. This also keeps my oil inventory on an even keel, now that I can top up all three with the same grade oil!
Unless you want to use the extended drain interval that synthetics provide, it's not really cost effective to use synthetic oil only to change it at the same interval as standard oil. However, synthetics provide better protection, and produce less friction and pumping losses which effectively increases HP, although you won't feel it.2006 Pontiac G6 GT (stock) - 44,000kms
