    >>>>>THE G6P PONTIAC G6 FAQ<<<<<

    Introduction:
This thread is geared towards helping answer all those common questions, such as 'what are my bulb sizes' and 'where do I get an ecm for my car' quickly and correctly. It will link to outside websites and in house threads. It will be continuously updated and contributions can come from anyone.

I'm sure there will be items that were missed on the initial write up. But it was time to get this posted. So, if you feel a topic, Q/A or fact should be added to this FAQ, reply with your info and it will be added.

Essentially, this FAQ sheet will help get new members up to speed and help cut down on 'use search' posts and redundant new topics.

    >>>>>Q/A Section:
Q: Where can I find parts for my G6?
    A: Thread is here

Q: What vendors are there on G6performance? And what do they have?
A: Here is the link to the sponsor and vendor section.

Q: Is there any type of forced induction for the G6?
A: No there is not. However there have been plenty of failed attemps. Some threads you should look at include here and

Q: Will the Grand Am Eaton M62 Supercharger work on a G6?
A: Read this thread about it since it is still undetermined.

Q: Are there headers for the G6?
A: No, there is an attempt to get them fabricated by S&S headers but no takers so far. Read this thread for information about it. There are OBX headers for the LX9 3.5l but OBX has a reputation of sub par quality with premature rusting and cracking.

Q: Can I take the side moldings off of my car?
A: Yes, but they're not only glued, there is also prongs holding them on. There will be holes in sides of the car. Thread is here.

Q: What are the bulb sizes for my car?
A: Go here and use this guide for all the bulb sizes.

Q: Are there projector style headligh bulb housings availible
A: Yes, but they are not good quality. See this thread to see light output. And check this link for trying to custom retrofit them yourself.

Q: Is there an ECM/TCM (computer) mod available for my car?
A: Yes; best bet is to contact our vender GTPrix at WAMS.
    His website---> WhiteAutoandMedia

Q: Is the Jet chip or MAF sensor worth it?
A: No. Our own member (dre256) bought one of their MAFs and was nothing but trouble. Do not buy the JET MAF as well as their "chip". Please visit this thread for the discussion.

Q: Are electric superchargers worth it?
A: No, they become a restriction more than a benefit real fast and thus are not worth money. Read this thread and this thread.

    Q: Ebay "chips"?
A: Do not buy them. Just like most of the JET products they are a scam and will do nothing or just cause you trouble.

Q: Is there a upgraded transmission for the G6?
    A: Read this page.

    Q: I want HIDs!!!
A: There are several types available. Read This, Read This, This too AND definitely This For Sure

Q: I want tint. What is my states/provinces legal tint limit?
A: Look here for starters Most states/provinces vary quite a bit and it truly comes down to the officer which is pulling you over. In case you're new to tint entirely, the scale goes 0%=Zero Light, commonly called Limo Tint -> 100% = All Light (no tint). Standard seems to be about 20%-35%.

Q: How do I hardwire 'this'?
    A: Thread One , NEEDED!!

Q: I want to put a radio in, what do I do about the DIC?
A: Well, your car will function fine without it, however, it will be a pain if you ever need to change something. You can buy a Metra or Scosche brand dash kit, which will allow you to fit a single din in the kit and still display all your DIC stuff on the little screen below. Some people, with double din screens, put a third party, Metra or Scosche brand DIC add on, in another part of their car, like the glove box. A photo of

To see a Metra kit. To see a Metra Kit in action.
To see a Scosche kit. To see a Scosche kit in action.

Q: How do I hardwire my iPod, Sirius/XM or similar aux input into my non-iPod capable factory radio?
A: You have a couple options. Integral Solutions Axxess iPod Kit. Ongoing thread regarding retro factory iPod plug.

Q: I want a radar detector. Which one should I get?
A: Here is the in-house thread. You should however, definitely visit these forums as well. In the USA, only Virginia and D.C have laws forbidding the use of RDs on their roads. In every other state, it is legal to use them, EXCEPT in commercial vehicles. In Canada, every province EXCEPT British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Alberta have laws forbidding their use in ALL vehicles. If you're in Canada (or illegal U.S states) the only detector choice is the Bel-Tronics STi Driver.

Q: I want a laser jammer, is it legal in my state?
A: See this link to find your states laws.

Q: I want a laser jammer, which one should i get?
A: Visit this laser jammer test link to make your decision.

Q: I want an exhaust. Where are they?
A: First, read and post any questions in this thread. You have two choices: a Magnaflowsystem and a GT-R Exhaust Kit from one of our own forum members.

Q: What kind of oil should I use?
A: Mobil One 5w30 seems to be the most popular. Some use Royal Purple. It is a debate for the ages which is best. Thread here.

Q: I want to replace my stock intake with an aftermarket system.
A: Right now, you have a lot of options. Begin reading HERE. Currently, Dr. Speed makes fenderwell intakes here. Injen also makes intakes for the G6, here, but it is limited to 05V6 only.

Q: I want to reduce the weight in my G6. Weight reduction.
A: Here is the only thread available

Q: What are my speaker sizes?
    A: Front Speaker 6.5 3.75
    Front Tweeter 1.5 2

    Subwoofer 6X9 5
    Subwoofer 6X9 5

Q: I want to use a K&N drop-in replacement filter for my stock intake, what is the part number?
    A: Official K&N Site. K&N part number: 33-2315

Q: I want to lower my G6. What springs should I chose?
A: Go here and start reading!

Q: What size rotors do I need?
    A: Thread on Rotor Sizes.
    Front GT/GTP: 11.65"
    Rear GT/GTP: 10.6"
    Non-ABS Front: 10.875"
    Non-ABS Rears: 10.635"

    Q: What about brake pads?
A: Here is a good discussion on brake pads!

Q: I want to upgrade to big brakes. Is there any?
A: Yes, well sorta. The saab brake set up can be used on the G6. Start reading this thread.

Q: Are there any coilover kits for the G6?
A: Again. There isnt one G6 specific but a member fitted saab coilvers onto thier car. There is a detailed explaination here.

Q: What body kits are there for the G6?
A: There is one actual "body" kit and it is from AIT racing; the rest are lip kits(unless you upgrade to a GXP body). It can be found here. Visit this thread for pictures and info.
*Only for G6 coupe, but the front will fit on the sedan; sedan kit is coming out the end of August 09'. *

Q: I want to upgrade to the GXP body kit. What do I need?
A: The part numbers of course. They are right in the first post of this thread.

might as well post these here too...

why is crimson red in red letters?

and isn't the 6 speed in the '07 GTP an automatic, not a manual?

also, axle is misspelled as "axel" in several places, a search and edit would be nice Wink

fusion orange was available on the 2006 GTP also, not just the GT (i'm not sure about the other trim levels)

Under 2007, the manual is for the GT Sport, and GTP has the 6-speed auto only.

                  Correct torque for the 3900 is 240lb-ft @ 4600rpm

I believe the 06 3.9 had max torque at 2800 and the 07 at 4600.

240 HP @ 6000 rpm and 241 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm is what my brochure book says in the specifications for 2006.

Also says the same thing on the fact sheet my dealer printed out with my papers.
