  • Upgrading Monsoon Speakers

Calling all Audio Gurus (if you don't know what you are talking about, please don't post, I am looking for experts in this field):

I have the Monsoon Audio System in my 2006 Pontiac G6 GT and I want to upgrade my speakers. Now I know that our system is really finicky and views all of the speakers as being 2 OHM rather than 4 like most vehicles so this seriously limits our options. I have been looking into what we can do and I know one option is to just gut everything, go with an aftermarket deck, Scosche Media thing, and put all new amps and speakers in. However I don't want to do that, I would rather just keep my factory radio and amp and stuff. So here is what I am looking at for replacements:

    Option 1:

    Front Speakers -
    PowerBass L2-6C - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_151L26...6C.html?tp=105
    Rear Speakers -
    PowerBass OE69C-TY - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_151OE6...-OE69C-TY.html
(Or just buy two sets of the front speakers and use a set of these in the rear deck: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_142SA6...-Brackets.html)

    Option 2:

    Front Speakers -
    Infinity Kappa 60.11cs - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108601...cs.html?tp=105
    Rear Speakers -
    Infinity Kappa 462.11cfp - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108462...fp.html?tp=105
(Or just buy two sets of the front speakers and use a set of these in the rear deck: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_142SA6...-Brackets.html)

Now the big deal with the Monsoon Audio System is that it needs 2 Ohm speakers of course. But also the rear speakers are a 6x9 woofer and a small speaker mounted above it (See: https://www.g6performance.com/forum/...ad.php?t=23727) ... there is no aftermarket speakers that have this same set up. However I am thinking that the PowerBass 6x9 speakers are really close but would need to be wired up to show 2 Ohm resistance instead of 4 (if possible) and the tweeter could be mounted above like the factory ones. If not, just getting two sets of the component speakers might be a better idea, especially since I am running a sub in the trunk already.

I am looking for some expert help or recommendations on what I should do. The main thing for me is that I don't want to be spending crazy amounts of money on this and just want a solid upgrade from the paper factory speakers so I can really enjoy my music to and from work. The truth is that my G6 is a great commuter car, but I probably wont have it for a whole lot longer. It has 112k miles on it and has served me well the last 10 years but will probably be unloading it in the next 3ish years when I have around 150-175k miles on it. So I don't want to go spending $1000 on a completely new set up, just looking to upgrade in the mean time. Thanks again for all your help guys!
