  • Fuel Smell.....and I have 3 recalls!!

I swung by a GM dealership for an inspection and the mechanic noticed the fuel smell.
Ok....Ive noticed it too but havent really addressed it yet. It seems that it tends to affect most of our G6's
when you get to the 200k point but GM has yet to have a recall on it.
The line coming out of the top of the Fuel Delivery Module (Fuel Pump) cracks.
Then fuel leaks out, runs over the top of the tank then spills down the sides.
Not very safe... Especially when you see the route of your exhaust pipe.

The fuel module for my 3.5 is called a Module KI 3.107 and the part number is 19179819.
its also $560. The Mechanic's GM discount brings it to $308.14 or $333.56 with tax.

So $334 or aftermarket. The Dealership Mechanic said the one from O'Reillys was just as good.

In looking at Auto Zone they have:
Delphi Fuel Pump, part # FFG1384 for $257.99
Spectra Premium Fuel Pump, part # D6602M for $257.99
ACDelco Fuel Pump (GM original Equipment), part # MU1642 for $439.99

    O'Reilly carries:
Precision Fuel Pump Module Assembly, part # A43013 for $257.99

The mechanic at the dealership said he has it down to a science and doesnt have to totally remove the tank to swap em out.
He said he can tilt the tank and do it. He also said he would do it on his lunch break for $80 if I set the part in the backseat.

    The culprit:

I saw on a FB page where one guy was able to fix it for a couple dollars....

Here are some screen shot of his fix:

I would really like to try that as it would only run a few bucks for fuel line and clamps but
I really like the idea of $80 labor.

I will keep the old fuel pump and document where its breaking (pix) & perform this cheap trick to it.
I will snap pix along the way so if its successful then you can have that roue as an option.

I really think its crazy to buy a new part when it works.....its just the connection thats cracked.
    aaarrrgggggggggggg

    Soooo....stay tuned!

PS - Why not try it from the start? Cause I cant keep the car at the dealership on a rack while I play with it.

PSS- I have 3 recalls on my car. WUT!!

Man I'm dreading that fuel leak. It's only a matter of time...
What recalls did you not get done? Shifter, bcm wiring and steering? Heh
